RaynarHey POSSE! Why did you give my SUPERB level such a CRAP review????!!! - (oops sorry, I thought I was 'Death Valley' for a moment there :) )

No, honestly I think I finally got a fair review on what the level was actually worth. Would you believe Tosche Station gave this a 90 ? Every comment you made was valid.

The cave system really is the only thing of merit and was the most fun to make.

Keep up the great reviews!

Cheers...

Raynar
blujayI'm sorry, I just have to disagree with this review. I think it deserved at least a 70, if not a 75-80. It has a really, really neat layout, some really neat features (the way you get to the conc is hard to figure out but very cool), the room with the moving crates is very nicely done (ton of 3dos? So what??? It looks GREAT and adds to the atmosphere of a transfer station!), the caves, as he mentioned, are excellent, and overall it's just a very cool, very unique level, with some very interesting features and layout. It's fun. Get it. That simple. :)
RaynarJust thought I add a few more comments:

'The first thing i noticed was a drop of framerate at certain spots where i thought there shouldn't have been...'

Looking back on the level, there are far too many adjoins visible at any one time and this is the result. I've learned a hell of a lot more about increasing performance since then.

'The level may lag a bit (slow down), because there are elevators and doors...'

This is the only part of the review which isn't quite true - all cogs are written client/server - so lag isn't a problem.

Overall, I don't think it's quite so bad for a first level. I may even put together another in between Rbots development :)

Cheers...

Raynar
BrianActually, just because you use C/S cogs doesn't mean you won't get lag. Think about it. Either way you do elevs/doors, you have to send messages back and forth across the network. You have to track the location of the objects, etc. So no matter what, if you have a lot of them, you'll get more lag than if you use something completely local like sector thrust or jump pads.

I haven't played the level, but I just had to mention this. I personally hate elevators and doors in MP levels - they completely break up the flow (in most cases). Sometimes they can be used well, like the hatch at the bottom of the JK Bespin level...
jturcioI'll have to agree with Brian on this one. I don't know how many times that I've played in an mp level where I've been stopped by a door that refuses to move because of lag.
PosseThe level didn't flow well as there was only one way in and out of the factory, and to get around outside, you have to jump on that moving thingee...
RaynarHi guys.

I mentioned that 'lag isn't a problem' - not that there was no lag at all. I have played this level more times than I can remember and never once had any problems with these cogs due to lag even on very slow connections (hosted by other players).

Ok, I admit that some people prefer not to have moving objects within MP levels - that's fine. I know how much I hated Bespin Mining when those doors were lagged to hell and back.

I know the level doesn't flow well, but Posse, there are 4 ways out of the factory - 2 elevators at each end. Can I ask how much time was spent actually playing the level before writing the review?

Cheers...

Raynar
Eugen J. WoiwodRaynar, I tried this level, and like some other people mentioned here, I did encounter serious FPS reduction (this on a Voodoo3 2000) in the cargo room with all the boxes, and when coming out of the caves looking at the top of the platform where the shuttle was sitting. Cave system was fine, and inside it wasn't even laggy.

But, other then that, I did enjoy the level and the nice trap's you had throughout to catch people :)

If you decide to do further work on the level, then I would gladly play it again, especially if FPS reduction in some spot's can be reduced, if possible.
Posseoh yes, forgot bout the elevators. and, i played the level for 30 minutes.... it was big and i wanted to c everything. good times. i killed myself 10 times or so. was looking for every trap/secret u put in.
blujayPosse, did you actually play this level online with other people? It is a MP level after all. Just curious.
RaynarThanks for the review Posse! I do appreciate the time spent reviewing our levels. Keep up the good work!
Posseblujay, yes. JTurcio and I try each level out before he or I writes a review. That's the only way i can give it a fair gameplay score.
JennyActually, I think this review is way too low. I loved the layout etc, and didn't get framerate drops anywhere, and my PC sucks. Never mind Raynar, lots seem to think it is a teensy bit too low...
Sinful Pasti'm a bit ticked off here. posse, you played the level for THIRTY MINUTES and then wrote the review? that's not substantial time to write ANY review. i played this level for an hour the first time i got it. then i played it a couple more times so i could get a feel for it. a thirty minute test, even with someone else, is not nearly enough to properly score any level, much less a level of this size. i also believe that playing with three players as well as two would help you decide how good or bad flow and gameplay is. as for my opinions on this level, i was thoroughly impressed. it was not the greatest level of all time, but i sure didnt have a whole lot of lag problems. the cogs were innovative. the 3dos were placed well. the architecture wasnt overly boxy. texturing fit the location. i would give this level at least a 75 in a heartbeat. this level should be rescored.
