SavageX's CTF
Author: [SavageX] Reviewer: [Andy]
- Aesthetics:
- I think SavageX did an excellent texturing job here, with just the original Jedi Knight MATs! The architecture is not too complex, and very appealing. Some texture misalignments sometimes spoil it, though. There is some HOM effects near the doors to the concussion turret towers. This problem only occurs when walking backwards, so I don't think it should be too much of a problem. The railings near the water (see screenshot 2) are missing their proper floor flags, so don't be surprised if you start sliding around knee-deep in them. There are a few small lighting glitches in 3D-accelerated mode (the black bars across the floor at the beginning). These are not present when using software rendering.
- Gameplay:
- This is where this levels really shines! I hosted (on a 56k modem) and played with 3 other people, and my frame rate never dropped below 50fps, and we never experienced any lag! I enjoyed this level far more than the LEC CTF levels. The action was very fast and furious, and should satisfy even the most bloodthirsty, bryar holstering scumbags. Most of the weapons are at the extreme ends of the level, which prevents your opponents from over-stocking, but are all clustered together, so if you have greedy teammates, you're out of luck. The concussion turrets were a really nice way to finish off an opponent if you run out of ammo, or are low on health, but if somebody leaves it on you'll have a hard time getting across to the other team's side. This only happened to me once during the two hours I played, so it probably won't be a problem. Some great COGs were used, but in the wrong places (the breakable lights in the water tunnels).
- Final Comments:
- This one's definitely earned its place among the few levels on my hard disk. You most definitely should download SavageX's CTF level. The gameplay is the best I have ever experienced. There is never a boring moment when playing this level. It has its bugs, but it's not without its charm.
