Starport
Author: [Rogue Leader] Reviewer: [Jason]
- Aesthetics:
- This level was fairly average aesthetically. There was some great architecture in places and in other places it was downright boxy. Though, there wasn't a room that I found that was just a box with 3dos. The texturing I thought was done very well in some places. Most of the mats made sense in the starport theme and were not too repetitive. There were a couple of misalignments however, but nothing too serious. There was some fairly good lighting in the level, but not incredibly excellent. I found that the lighting seemed to support the theme, just as the mats did. There were some dynamics in the level. They included some elevators, traps and sector thrusts. They all seemed to be used very well. And there also seemed to be a startup cog which disabled all force. I found this made the level very interesting.
- Gameplay:
- The levels gameplay was average also. There seemed to be a little too many hallways that all seemed fairly similar and made me get turned around once or twice, though I quickly found my way again. The hallways all seemed to go around in the circle, therefore making it fairly easy to find the opponent. The item placement in the levels was a little above average. The items seemed well spaced out. But the concussion rifle and other powerful items were much too easy to get to, making the score that much lower. I found that the framerate didn't suffer at all, which is very good. It provided some good flow. Another thing that I thought added to the gameplay was the taking away of force powers. It provided much more fun battles for me.
- Final Comments:
- This level is above average in my opinion. If you are looking for some fun gunning, or sabering, this is a level for you. I found it was fairly fun to play in and didn't bore me too quickly. But, if you are a force maniac, do not download this level because of the startup cog I mentioned. And, if you do not have a 3d accelerator, I suggest you do not download this level because of an incredible amount of cmp errors.
