Hall of Sabers
Author: [ Mike Hamilton (AKA Mangore Kiramin)] Reviewer: [DragonPhinn]
- Aesthetics:
- This level was one of the best boxy levels I’ve ever played. The architecture, although not advanced, showed effort and had a great ambiance to it. The author took great pains to add small details which showed. Texturing was one of the few areas where I think this level could have improved greatly, although not in texture selection, but in texture alignment. It was painfully apparent that the author was unfamiliar with the JED stitch command, and because of it textures were askew and in awkward angles. If the author knew to use the stitch commands he could have very possibly made this level a level of the week. Lighting was another above average performance from this author. The inner areas were splendidly done with shadows and just enough light to make things interesting. I loved sabering and watch the walls and floor light up as I circle the stand. Dynamically, the level made a decent showing – with some elevators and an excellent windpipe which launches you up. In a nutshell – an above average performance.
- Gameplay:
- Gameplay was excellent in this level. The numerous areas proved challenging and diverse – keeping the backdrop original, and the surface interesting. As I traveled from place to place, my sabering partner and I were able to find ample room for fighting, but not flat boring space, but sometimes rocky, random areas. Sometimes elevated platforms, and sometimes even a watery skirmish or two. Items were well placed and the bigger items were hard to come by – but frequent enough to come of use. The level flowed together perfectly – allowing me to access all levels easily. I had a great time sabering in this level, and I will most definitely keep this level on hand for the next time I’m on zone.
- Final Comments:
- I was greatly impressed with this authors skill, and I hope to see other works by him in the future. I implore all you saberists to get this level and play it – you won’t be disappointed. I’m surprised this level didn’t gain more popularity.
