Star Light Fight 2
Author: [TDJ_Radice] Reviewer: [spaceboy]
- Aesthetics:
- The level was pretty much average in terms of architecture. The canyon walls did not look
realistic at all, as they were very flat. The texturing, while well stitched, clashed greatly.
The metallic canyon floor did not look good at all and at one part of the level the texture on
the rock wall changes, which does not look very good. Also, the entire level was fully lit.
These factors really detracted from the overall feel of the level, as it really didn’t feel much
like a canyon.
- Gameplay:
- Gameplay on this level was fairly good. The framerate was consistently high and the level
flow was fairly good. The high walkways are excellent for sniping, and there are a few saber
areas, including one that appears to hang in the middle of space, which I rather liked.
There was a new cog or two that prevented the player from using a certain path to the other
side of the level, while flashing the color side they were on and making a noise, in case you
couldn't figure out you weren’t supposed to go that way. There are also two spots that act kind
of like the giant jumps in Bug’s Morpheus level (they shoot you high into the air, over a wall.)
Item placement was so-so. There were a few too many shield an health powerups, and there
is a ridiculous overabundance of ammunition. Also, there is a rail detonator and concussion
rifle on each side, neither of which are hard to find at all, which makes the level something of
a high powered weapons party. There were a few secret areas, one of which contains a super
shield, the other is a sort of sewer system that connects the two separate color areas, as well as
providing a hidden inlet to the canyon floor. The large column in the middle of the canyon
leads to the saber dueling spot.
- Final Comments:
- Overall, the level was fairly fun. I would have liked a bit more eye candy, but that is not a
huge problem. It’s a good download for people who like gunning, especially with concussion
rifles. It may not be the best level out there, but it has some good ideas and good flow.
