Necropolis

[Note: Start downloading this level now, if you havent already.] Tee has done an outstanding job with this level. I simply can't come up with enough superlatives for it. Lets see, where to start. How about textures. The level's loaded with new textures, i counted around three original lec textures, all the rest are some of the most professional-looking textures I've ever seen. They all fit together beautifully, and provide a solid egyptian feel. As for new 3do's, theres plenty. All sorts of urns and bottles lying around, giant pilars supporting roofs, obelisks ur.. standing, and sarcophagi covering up secrets. Sprites also played a rather interesting role in Tee's Necropolis, mainly in the form of scum^tm. Scum^tm is pretty much all over the level, growing on the floor, hanging from the ceiling, floating on the surface of the water, etc. Its all over the place, and it adds to the realism of the level. Other sprites are used rather prominently in Necropolis, through the use of animated torches that are the main sources of light throughout the level. Snootle's method of making realistic planets is also used very effectively to have an eerie moon high above the main courtyard. Lighting adds even more ambience to a level that already has more than enough atmosphere. Architecture in Necropolis is in one word solid. Giant arches are used in every doorway. The rooms are varied from spacious rooms with plenty of area to run around in, to cramped little hallways, to a big open courtyard. Overall, this level is chock-full of eyecandy. Its worth downloading just for the eyecandy. But thats! not! all! This levels got great flow ontop of all of this.
Gameplay:
Gameplay in Necropolis is fast and well balanced. The level's flow is very good, considering how interconnected everything it all is. Theres around six ways or more to get to every area of the level. Item layout is very well balanced. Weapons are placed all over the level, mostly in notches along the wall, usually in groups of two ammo, one sheild, one weapon for the ammo. The level is well suited for both full force and no force play, and is sized so that it can easily accomodate 2 to 6 players, without feeling too cramped. Luckily, playability isn't sacrificed by the slew of new stuff crammed in the level, and framerate is rather decent in all areas.
Final Comments:
Overall, Necropolis really stands out because of the incomprehensible feat Tee has accomplished with the aesthetics. I seriously don't think i've ever seen anything of this calibur in any level. Furthermore, Tee deserves significant praise for executing this in a manner that preserves framerate and allows varied gameplay. I'm very tempted to give this level a perfect score.
