Blastpoint Ridge

- I was digging around in my level archives on my HD, when I found this gem. The architecture in this level is superb. There are many nooks and crannies and great randomnous that make this level have a great feel. The architecture is kind of blocky but it makes up for it in every other aspect of it. The lighting was excellent also. The small crevices that I found myself falling into were dark as though the light could not reach that far down. The level, although, was not much to look at mat wise. Although the mats are appropriate for the level, they get very old because of constant repitition. They are also just the regular mats from Jedi Knight. I thought this map could have used a lot of custom mats. The cogs in this level were some of the best I have seen. I thought that being able to jump great distances was really fun (as seen in screenshot 2). Also the mandalorian suit that makes you invisisble was very fun to use, if you have it that is. It gives you a great advantage over the other players when you have this. There were also other less significant cogs throughout the level. Such as a lightning trap to protect the suit, and the different messages that would pop-up at different times while you are playing.
- Gameplay:
- This level has very good gameplay. It's small design makes you constantly fight for position and the mandalorian suit. The item placement in this level are not excellent, but it isn't too shabby either. There were, I think, too many shields and health pickups. I found this incredibly annoying when I had my enemy close to death and they just ran away and picked up more health\shields. There are no points in the level where the framerate is affected considerably. The cogs in this level add lots of fun to it and should keep players coming back for more. There was great balance in the fact that you could have the suit and fight for a while, but eventually would wear off and you would be forced to fight normally again.
- Final Comments:
- Although there are some drawbacks to this level, I highly recommend downloading it. The level is superior to many others and provides some very fun play. I will have this level on my hard drive for a long while.
