Escape from Imperial Base
Author: [Ryan Pulham] Reviewer: [Home_Sliced]
- Aesthetics:
- The architecture of this level is certainly nothing to write home about. The entire level has a very boxy feel to it, but there are a few areas where the author put in a few beams or a sloped surface in an attempt to liven things up a bit. Contributing to the fairly plain look of the level is the bland texturing. Several of the more detailed textures would liven this level up considerably. There were a few stitching errors, but nothing serious. Lighting was uniform throughout the whole level, but hey, it is an Imperial Base. Dynamically, however, this level had quite a few extras including several slashable grates, a conveyor belt or two, a damaging sector, and several timed doors opened by switches. If this is the author’s first released level, than it is a good first attempt.
- Gameplay:
- As Kyle, you must escape from an Imperial base and report its location to the New Republic. A simple plot. Once again, nothing new or exciting. The level does contain a wide variety of guns and the saber so you could play it in more than one way. Item placement was pretty good, and the author even uses shelves to hold powerups! The shields and health are sparse enough to keep you on your toes, but the ammo placement is a tad bit heavy at the end. Enemy placement was decent, but predictable. The level has the feel of an Imperial base to it with tight hallways and lots of rooms close to each other. There are even a few places with more than one path to take. The level is very flat, however, with little use of all three dimensions. There’s nothing terribly exciting about the gameplay, but it is certainly not boring.
- Final Comments:
- As I think this is the author’s first released level, I would say it is a good first attempt. Keep sharpening your editing skills. However, I can’t really recommend this level to anyone, unless you have a lot of spare time on your hands.
