Snowy Storeaway
Author: [Red_XIIII] Reviewer: [Moonraker]
- Aesthetics:
- White, "Winter Wonderland", that pretty much describes this level. It has that snowy silent feel to it. The author got the point of
this being a "snowy" level across, maybe a little too much. Every room has walls filled with snow and the level sticks to a
constant white color scheme. This was covered up in some places however by colored lighting, which I might add was used
very nicely. This isn't a level you turn to to be bombarded with eye opening visuals but it has enough to keep you hooked into
the flow of things. Overall the Hoth theme has been set nicely in this level.
- Gameplay:
- The gameplay can get a little frustrating in places in this level. You'll find that finding you opponent is a task altogether. It has so
many small branching passage-ways in some places that you can easily get lost. You'll also find yourself backtracking through
the level as passage-ways don't all connect and form a "circle", which is bad for flow. If you want an analogy of flow to this
level, just imagine a waterfall of honey, if you can do that I think you'll see what I am talking about. As always this level has a
few traps, oh yes, and some rather nasty ones at that. If you can outsmart your opponent, you'll get to watch them get torn limb
for limb by some mean ol' vornskers. I experienced a rather nice framerate in this level and I believe it is well suited for multiple
players.
- Final Comments:
- Well, this was a pretty nice level but not one I'm going to keep. It just doesn't balance everything the way it should be. Sure
you can have fun in this level but it is pretty basic. No new ideas or ingenuity were used here, it's your classic (and little dull)
level.
