New Spaceport Level Reviews - Kiramin
Check out these new reviews at the The Spaceport: Jedi Dojo and Jedi's High School.
JK Arena Update - Kiramin
Good news so far. Everything seems to be going according to schedule. I'm just about finished with my first arena and have been helping Rishka test his cog work, with help from slug and justin. Its coming along great (despite the occasional bug which Rishka ruthlessly squashes).

I have posted two screenshots ( 1 - 2 ) of my arena level for those interested.

It looks like Brian called it right when he said it would take about a month. If things keep going smoothly, you can expect JK Arena before November.
Another JKEdit Update - Kiramin
Ole Thomasen has released JKEdit v2.59 and v1.59. You can download them from JKEdit's homepage, Magicforce.com. These new versions feature the following additions:
Improved Error dialog with Show option.

And fixed the following bugs:

The Find Item function did not worked correctly.

Anyway, the move to the new server is going well - everything other than the hosted sites and the forum has been moved over. The levels script is still down, it should be back up tonight or tomorrow (and we have a bunch of levels to post).

In other news, Jeff`C (also of Outpost D-34) has posted a few new shots of Reqiem: the Ascension on the RAV Homepage. Help Wanted: JK Arena - Brian
This is a project that's been in my head since the dawn of JK editing. I figured someone would release something like this by now, but apparently not. What I want is a new JK MP game similar to Quake's Rocket Arena.

As the level contest has shown, there is considerable talent present in the JK community. I would very much like to get this project up, running, and finished within a month's time. This is a very feasible goal, and one that would benefit the whole community.

The rules are as follows:

  • Battles are 1 on 1
  • If anyone else joins the game, they are "observers" and can either float around like a ghost, or get locked in a "viewing area"
  • The levels are very small arenas that have enough weapons/ammo that you don't run out (perhaps start with all weapons)
  • No shield/health/force powerups in the levels
  • When one person wins, the loser gets stuck in the viewing area, and the next person in line gets dropped into the arena to fight
  • At the start of each battle, players' health, shields, and ammo are set to max
  • A scoring system will each persons score - 1 point for winning a match, no points for losing, no negative points
  • Games will end at either a time limit or a score limit (just like normal)

These rules are of course flexible, and they will be refined by the final team. This project is not for glory, and in fact, I don't even plan on having a page up until the day of release (so as to stay focused on what's important).

I can crank our some arena levels pretty fast, but of course, the more the merrier. What I really need at this point is a couple of good coggers. I don't know cog, and this project won't go anywhere if we don't get some coggers involved.

If you are interested in helping out with cogging or level design, email me. I am convinced that this community has a ton to offer, we just have to focus our efforts!

New Diary of a Crazed Mimbanite - Brian
Got word that Diary of a Crazed Mimbanite has reached #41 (two in one day!). In case you don't know, these are pretty amusing Star Wars comic strips...
Watto's Junkyard - Brian
A few of you may have noticed that little Watto's Junkyard link in the extras section above. Watto's Junkyard is a new project I will be working on. The site is a "general Star Wars" site. It covered everything to do with Episode 1, and will start covering Episodes 2 and 3. We have future plans to expand into basically everything "Star Wars." I just want to throw the link up here - the site is a great site, and I'm sure in the coming weeks, it will get even better. So, give it a click and check out the various sections - let me know if you have any suggestions/etc.
State of the Network - Brian
I'm sure everyone noticed when SWFiles.net went offline. It left us with no level downloads for a full day. This was due to a conflict with our current host. To remedy this problem, as well as give us room to expand in the future, we are again moving to a new server. This time, the server will be a dedicated server, which means only sites on our network will be on it. This allows for increased performance, increased flexibility, and a lot more stability (IE: the host will NOT take it down). It also gives us a ton of space. I know we didn't mention it, but we are running out of space on our current host, so either way, we have to move.

The new dedicated server will be online this evening. We will start transferring files over ASAP, but the DNS changes won't be made till sometime next week. When the DNS does cut over, we will post the IP address of the new server so you will still be able to access the site (DNS changes take up to 3 or 4 days to update around the world). Any questions/comments, feel free to email me.
New Programs Download Page - Staff
We have replaced our sparse Utility and Editor sections with a combined Programs page featuring all the previously offered downloads and many more helpful tools for Jedi Knight and Mysteries of the Sith editing. Until Brian has a few moments to update the sidebar, you can visit the new programs page by following this link.

If any one knows of other good quality JK and MoTS utilities, or of more recent versions of already listed ones, then please email me at mangore_kiramin@geocities.com. Thank you.

The Contest Winners! - Slug
The day you guys have been waiting for is here at last. The contest is over, and 7 winning levels have been compiled into one tidy, freakishly fun level pack. All that's left to do is click here or the link in the "extras section" up above the news, and download the pack.. It's a hefty 2.5 Megs, so while you're waiting for the d/l, whet your appetite by looking at some screenshots and info about the pack. Big congratulations to the authors, and also a big thanks for cranking out such great levels.. Another big thanks to all the people that helped me out with this.

SWFiles.net Back Online - Brian
I got the hosting provider to turn our files site back on, so you can now download files. However, expect a delay in the next few days, as we have to move it to another server. Thanks everyone for your patience.
The Levels - Slug
Unfortunately due to this whole swfiles.net downtime thing (I'm so proud that I refrained from swearing, insulting, and whining like a child!), we have to do the levels this way.. I'll put them into the level archive when our host sees the error of it's ways..
Crystal Palace by Anime_Shinji
Jedi Hall of Meditation by ThreeDee
jk_tower by bug
The Sewer by MaDMaN
Water Treatment Plant by Chemelion
And More Fall - Slug
Got another shipment of levels that didn't make the cut in the level contest.. This round was a toughy, and you'll see for yourself when playing these levels just how hard it was for us to cut 'em.. Congrats to these authors for making it this far. If you don't see your level here, congratulations - You made it.. Or, we lost your level (whoops!).. I certainly hope, and doubt that the latter is true though.
Imperial Retribution - Slug
JM sends word that Imperial Retribution has updated with some screenshots. Despite what he says on the news page, they look pretty cool, so head over there.

Houston, we've got a freakin' problem here... - Kedri
Man, we're getting punked by the guys who host swfiles.net. They've essentially shut us down for using their bandwidth to distribute our files, something they say isn't allowed in our agreement with them. In case you don't now about this, swfiles.net is the domain we use to store all our levels, mods, etc. That's completely jacked, 'cause there's nothing in the agreement that talks about that. Well, whatever. The point is, downloading levels is impossible for the time being. At least they haven't removed all our files (yet). We're working on it, so hold on tight. Thanks.
Vortex to Darkness Shots - Brian
Been a while since we've heard anything, but Rage assures us that development on the Vortex to Darkness mod is going very well. He recently made public 4 amazing screenshots, I really recommend checking these out: [Screenshot 1] [Screenshot 2] [Screenshot 3] [Screenshot 4].

Levels from the Contest - Slug
Well, I'd been avoiding this, since I don't like giving people bad news, but all of today I'll be posting levels from the contest that for one reason or another didn't make it through the judging so far. If you see your level here, our apologies, but good luck with future levels. Also don't feel down about your level, since most of the levels we got were better then the average levels we post here from day to day. I couldn't of been more pleased with the turnout. If you don't see your level here, don't get your hopes up too much - We're still cutting some, it just means your level got a bit further then those posted today. Thanks to all who participated though, and I hope that win or lose, you had fun making your level, enjoyed the contest, and will enjoy the level pack.

New JK Multiplayer Level: Imperial Reactor Core - Kedri
File: Imperial Reactor Core
Author: x_SubHuman_x
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: This medium/large MP level is set in the surroundings of a reactor core - however, it has a bit more of a twist than most JK MP levels around in that the level in not an unpopulated expanse... oh no - here you'll find stormtroopers, officers, the occasional hired bounty hunter - not to mention the AT-ST's and Probe Droids. This is one of the most challenging MP levels I have come across because not only are you trying to win kills from human opponents but you are also trying to protect against kills from all the other denizens that inhabit the place who will be happy to steal away your hard earned points. The level features several areas of interest to battle over including the reactor room itself, control rooms, a small but well-stocked armory, even a lecture theatre, bar and toilet. And it has enough teleports and traps to make things more than a little interesting. Add to all the above the fact that the more humans play - the more enemies there are! With 4 people playing the action around the reactor core is frantic - you will need all of your wits to survive the game with a positive score! Try it - I don't think you will be disappointed.
Mordor Temple - Brian
