New JK Multiplayer Level: PMM and PKL Spaceport - Kedri
File: PMM and PKL Spaceport
Author: Mew
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: This is a medium to large multiplayer level set on an abanonded spaceport. The level is designed for 2 - 8 players. This is my first "real" level. It contains 2 floors, with the second floor being a bit smaller and has a couple of suprises. The first floor has 2 main rooms and a few secondary rooms. There are also numerous holes and hiding spots that can be used to hide in or snipe from.
New JK MOD: Smorph V2.1 - Kedri
File: Smorph V2.1
Author: Mandalorian Editing Alliance
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: You may remember a version of Ship Morph 1.1 a couple of weeks back, so welcome to its hugely popular sequel now called - Smorph. This modification allows you to become a TIE Bomber or The Crow. This is a huge update and now includes a grappling hook, a powerful vertical shotgun and The Conc Rifle 10K.
Ships have a self-destruct mechanism and include varied weaponry (The TIE Bomber now has rear turrets to fire at enemies behind it and The Crow carries a charging blast cannon as well as a molten shrapnel launcher!).
Ships now also have sounds and the scaling has been vastly improved, to allow much better air battles and aiming.
The most fun you can have in one game! Don't believe me? See for yourself!
New COG: Wave Effect - Kedri
Obsidian sent us a very clever COG he's created, one that simulates the effect of rolling waves over a body of water (incidentally, a shot of the effect happens to be our Screenshot of the Day). You'll find the script fully commented; he's even thrown in a test level to boot! For more shots of the COG in action, as well as a discussion on how it was done, head over to the Showcase Forum and read all about it. Thanks again to Obsidian for sending in the file.
Zymotica's AAT Released - blujay
Zymotica has released his Armored Assault Tank 3do for JK. It comes in three flavors: open hatch with droid, open hatch but empty, and closed hatch. It looks superb, so give it a look. And while you're at it, encourage him to continue editing JK and finish up making the AAT into an enemy, he has decided to take a break from it.
Particle Editor - Brian
dr0id let us know that he released a particle editing program over on his site, dr0id's stuff. Here's the description from dr0id's page...
This program will let you open/save particles. It will also allow you to import/export vertices from Jed as particles and edit the particles attributes. Nothing more, nothing less.
As dr0id mentioned in his email, particles weren't used very much in JK, but they can be used to make some cool effects (remember the floating death star diagram in level 1 of Dark Forces?).

New JK MOD: Weapons R' Us - Kedri
File: Weapons R' Us
Author: Jason Blanchard
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: This mod is a weapons pack that makes weapons more powerful and generally better compared to the regular game. The new weapons will create more fast and furious gameplay with much excitment. The only weapons I didn't add were the lightsaber, fists, sequencer charges, and thermal detonaters. These weapons are excellent (except fists) in and among themselves. I hope you enjoy!
The Jedi Knight Screensaver Project - Kedri
This arrived from Mike Starr today:
I have recently accquired a screensaver creation program, and I would like to use it to make a screensaver specifically for the Jedi Knight community, containing screenshots from JK and MotS. The program accepts most image types, but I would reccomend using BMP or JPG/JPEG just in case. I'll take any shots you have, plain and doctored, from JK and MotS. I'll be accepting entries until the end of January, but I'll keep it open if I keep getting alot of submissions. Don't forget to include your name; gotta give credit where credit is due!
This is a great idea; I'm amazed no one thought of it sooner! Alright everybody, here's your shot at immortality! On a screensaver, at least. Send your submissions to Mike at orionn@md.freei.net.
Server Slowdown - Brian
We are very aware that the server has been very slow during peak times. This is because we've outgrown our dedicated server. We are working with UGO to offload our forums onto another server, which will free this one up to simple serve pages and files. This Tuesday, we will find out for sure exactly what's going on. This problem has not only caused slowdowns in viewing pages and forums, but also in downloads (time out errors). Please bear with us, we are working as fast as we possibly can.
The Latest on Art of the Lightsaber - Kedri
This came down the wire earlier today from Fardreamer over at Sandcrawler Productions:
Many people are wondering what's going on with Sandcrawler Productions's lightsaber mod, Art of the Lightsaber. We've been working on it for months now, perfecting it, adding features and increasing playability according to gamers' demands. Approximately one week ago we completed the mod. However, on the last minute a peculiar, inexplicable and apparently unsolvable bug popped up - and that is why it wasn't released as promised on Christmas Eve. In addition to this, the server move of Outpost D-34 brought with it innumerable problems with the site which needed immediate attention.

We would like to take this opportunity to apologize to all gamers who are disappointed with us; we are doing our best to complete the mod and get it released as soon as possible. It has already been blown way out of proportion (originally intended as a demo for The Face of Death), and has forced us to set aside our more important projects. Rest assured that the moment we're done, it'll be available for download from every major news site.
21st Century Saber Championship Update - Tosche
HKA_Saberz_Dog has had some problems with the e-mail address originally posted, so he asks that you send any future correspondence to djo_jag@justice.com. If you sent anything to his johnsilver address and got no response, try this address.
M3D's Razor Boomslang 2000 Review - blujay
UkeNuke says that Monolithic Illusions has a review of the Razor Boomslang 2000 mouse up. Sounds like it would be good for JK, give it a look-see.

New JK Single Player Level: Beavis Pack - Kedri
File: Beavis Pack
Author: Gohan_JSE
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: This mod will overwrite the Katarn skin and sounds. Both single-player and multiplayer versions are included. There are over 25 new sounds that I've included with new weapons, all new mount sounds some new firing sounds and a Beavis skin. A note of warning: the game will crash if trying to use the Katarn/Beavis skin in the multiplayer's Edit Player Screen. The only way you can side step this is to have a player with Katarn already set.
Millennium Updates - blujay
Hideki reports that he has updated Millennium with a new Quick Links function that should make it easier to navigate. Millennium is our hosted site that has lots of Cog info.
The 21st Century Saber Championship Week of Sabers - blujay
HKA_Saberz_Dog sent in news about this sabers tournament running from the 21st to the 28th this month.
This is a no Force saber event for teams and their individual members. Individuals must sign up at BattleStats, and must be included on a team roster to participate. It is the specific intent of the tournament sponsor that all participants have an enjoyable experience regardless of their skill levels. Appropriate sportsmanship, conduct, and behavior are necessary to achieve this goal. All Zone and event rules will be enforced. Details can be found on the tournament page.
Reviews - Brian
Althrough they've been pumping out reviews lately, they haven't been mentioned here in a while. We will start keeping updated on these things, but for all the reviews you missed over the holidays, check out the ever-expanding Tosche Station and Hyperview. Also of note (thanks Outpost D-34), The Spaceport looks to be closing it's doors (again). I swear, when they re-open (again) I will not announce it. I think I've announced their opening/closing about 10 times now.
SavageX Updates - Brian
SavageX's Command Center has been updated with a ton of info. In addition to a list of a bunch of new weapons, skins, items, and features, he's got a blurb about a new skill system he's working on.
I am also working on a "Warrior Experience Skill" System that replaces the forcepowers. These, however, are not powers at all. They are stats you can add to the player. You don't bind them to hotkeys because they modify the player's fighting ability so don't think they are force powers. There are 12 stats in all and are divided into three sections.

The first four skills are the Basic Skills in which a player can increase his Strength (adds to melee weapons power), Increase his Vitality (adds more Health units), incease his agility (makes him move faster), and the last one is Endurance (how much damage the player takes.)
For the rest, please visit SavageX's Command Center.
Help Me Classifieds - Brian
Our hosted classifieds site, Help Me, is continuously updated with help wanted and help offered ads - be sure to stop by if you're in the market.
What's Up with IS? - Brian
Everyone email Mehab4 and ask him to resume work on ISP 2.0! The Massassi Player's Group is on the way, and we need an official skin pack! What am I talking about? Check IS: Irrelevant Skins.
Episode 1 Video Release - Brian
Watto's Junkyard has the scoop on the officially announced Phantom Menace video release date. Also some news on the DVD version... While you're there, check out their new games section, written by Mehab4 (of IS: Irrelevant Skins) and myself.

In this version there's a new rail detonator, but since the repeater gun that appeared in the first Beta sucked out loud, I'm going to replace it with something. Also Benny Tsai's Gunblade found its way out from this Beta (if I can't find out why it sometimes screws key's up, I'm gonna leave it outta Kaboom Final).

Smorph...? - Brian
I'm not quite sure what it is either, but they've got a finished product and a site, so check 'em out: http://jkmorph.8k.com/. It looks like a mod, but I don't have JK on my laptop, so I can't check it out... Note to mod authors: If you ever create a mod, and then a site for it, make sure to have a link that says something like "What is *insert mod name here* ?" Then, when people click on it, the page explains exactly what the download is.

Wow... - Brian
Last month was our biggest month ever, with 1.2 million hits network-wide (excluding Watto's Junkyard - and Massassi has the VAST majority of these hits). Unfortunately, with this staggering amount of hits, we are already overloading our new dedicated server! This means that during peak times, access, especially to the forums, can slow down a bit. I am working with UGO to get a server for our forums (which will take the majority of the load off this server). Hopefully we can get something worked out within a week or so.

Again, my thanks goes out to all of those that continually visit this site. Without you, we would be nothing. Also thanks to The Code Alliance: without them, there would be no JK editing community, and therefore, no Massassi.
Just Wanted to Say Thanks... - Brian
I just wanted to thank everyone who submitted a Holiday logo. I was very, very surprised at the number and sheer quality of the artwork that was submitted! I personally have no talent in that area, but I can easily tell that we have some incredible artists visiting the site. I'm going to leave them up for another week or so, then back to the old logo. We will keep the logos for next year though!
Operation Fortra Walkthrough - Staff
I don't know if this got posted already or not, but skip it if you have already seen it... Jensyx has posted a walkthrough of her recently released SP level, Operation Fortra.
JK Think Tank - Brian
The JK Think Tank is a site for editors with "editors block." If you are out of ideas for levels, cogs, or whatever, check them out. If you have ideas, you can submit them. The webmaster over there just posted a beta of his upcoming SP level, Kyle's Odyssey.
New Hosted Site: Help Me - Brian
Our newest hosted site, Help Me has been released (actually a bit ago, but there was a mixup on who was announcing it...). Help Me is an online classifieds sites for editing groups, clans, sites, etc. If you need help with your group or site, go post an ad and hopefully someone will help you out! The new site is run by mark728.
Millennium Updates - Brian
Our hosted cog site, Millennium, has been updated regularly over the holiday season. Lots of cogging goodies, including updated tutorials, progress reports on his recent projects, and more. They've also just posted an opinion poll... What's better, Unreal Tournament or Quake III Arena? Go Vote.
Outpost D-34 - Brian
This was probably mentioned earlier, but I'm going to do it again anyway. Outpost D-34, a killer JK/Star Wars Gaming news site, is back online. Check these guys on a regular basis because they've got a lot going on.
Jedi Legacy - Brian
... has a new site design for a new ... (we're tired of all the hype). Go check it out, it looks great - http://www.jedilegacy.net/.
BlasTech Industries - Brian
BlasTech Industries is an editing group hosted over @ Jedi Legacy. They've been pretty active of late, with two new projects in the works.

  • Relic of the Force - I wanted to tell a story around a quite different character, a utterly normal character thrown into the upheaval of the galaxy fighting for survival. Thus was created Marcus Corren, archeologist and treasure hunter. Armed with only his sharp wit and an indepth knowledge of ancient history he finds himself hunted by the entire Imperial Fleet and the great Dark Lord of the Sith. Survival is the game, for if Marcus loses and Darth Vader uses the power of the ancient relic the universe is doomed. - Dante
  • Rebels Vs. Imperials - A team based mod. They've already released a demo, so go download it from their page!
Submission Instructions Updated - Brian
Dark Reaper recently sent in an email for level authors.
If I don't see a screenshot of a level, I don't download it.
Level authors: if you want people to download your level, please send us screenshots (please follow the instructions when doing so). The majority of our visitors will not download your level unless there are screenshots! This has been noted in the submission instructions...
New JK Site - Brian
Got this a bit ago, but Korriban Temple Ruins is a new JK site that features "levels and stuff." Anyway, I don't usually mention sites like this unless they offer something new and interesting, but these guys have a great artwork section. One of my favorites being the Imperial assault on the Borg Cube (that's from Star Trek).
Etc. - Brian
Back in the swing of things. I'm going though 350 emails right now, so hopefully things will get back up to date. Soon I'm going to switch the forums back to the "http://forums.massassi.net/" address, so if you have any problems starting tomorrow, let me know.

Date Fixed - Brian
A few people have mailed in telling us that our date today was listed as "1999" - this is not a year 2000 glitch/problem, but merely an error on the part of the staff. It's no big deal, but I fixed it so people would stop emailing us...
Jedinut Jim's New Site - blujay
Jedinut Jim sent in this about his new site:
I have opened a new site through which I plan to post news and reviews for JK and MotS levels and mods. I have hired an artist friend of mine to create a logo for it. I currently am looking for approximately 4-6 people to act as my staff, 2-3 reviewers, and 2-3 to post news. You can come to my site and fill out an aplication. I hope that some of you out there will come. More info is available at http://www.dreamwater.com/game/jedinutjim/
Etc. - Brian
I'm back after an extremely fun vacation. I want to wish everyone a happy new year (I was kindof surprised that nothing major happened, but what the heck, it's better this way). Mass JK related updates should begin again very soon, keep an eye out.
Glowsaber 3D Released - blujay
Van Shourt sent us this about Glowsaber 3D:
It has been four months since the first Glowsaber was announced, and after months of debugging and tweaking, our final product is complete! Glowsaber 3D is the first non-flat glow available. It is currently available on our site at http://www.jedinights.com/glowsaber/. Please report any bugs not listed in the readme. Thanks for all of the support, and please enjoy!
He also says that a bug was found in G3D, so if you downloaded it before January 3rd, download it again and replace the old version. The screenshot looks great, so go check it out!

Updated Catwalk Tutorial - blujay
SL_Ric_Olie sent us a slightly updated version of his catwalk tutorial, which reminds you to set the floor flag for the top surface.
