The New Empire Part 2

The Massassi Temple » Levels/Mods » Jedi Knight Single Player Level » The New Empire Part 2

Description

This is the sequel to The New Empire, which can be downloaded from here. It is recommended that you play The New Empire first so that you understand the story better. This level is split into three parts, all set on a new Imperial ship, and provides a lot of gameplay time. It contains a number of puzzles, cutscenes, new enemies, new weapons, and loads of other stuff never before seen in an SP level, such as coloured light corona effects, lots of breakable scenery and an escalator.

Despite a few flaws, this level is fabulous. The cutscenes are among the best I've ever seen. Some of the puzzles get a little repetitive and tedious, but the new enhancements more than make up for it.

I'm giving this level set a 7.

The enhancements were very very nice in this level, like Piggott said. The cutscenes, great. The new enemies were great.

The only thing I didn't like was the slashing/force jumping, got kinda tedious...

Still, it was hardly a big flaw and I can't wait for the third installment.

A good run, and you should play The New Empire 1 too fully understand the story...=)

That's where I got it from and it worked.

Thanks everyone. I'd better mail Massassi and tell them they've put up a bad file. It's not the source file that's the problem (the one on my webspace), because that's the same as the one at The Admiral's Command Chamber. They've made an download\ upload error somewhere. Anyway, until Massassi put up a clean file you can get it from:

http://www.theswanfamily.freeserve.co.uk/tne2.zip

or The Admiral's Command Chamber as Demon Nightmare said.

Dear Chris Swan,
Finally downloading & unzipping went ok, but now I have the following problem:
My JK & MotS directories are on drive D and not C, your first file (the new empire) is there too and it works. I installed your new file (New Emp2) on my D drive and after that I tried to run the level, but I get the following message:
Cannot find the file 'C:\PROGRA~1\LUCAS~1\JEDIKN~1\THENEW~2BAT'
I find that strange cause it should work, no matter what drive I install it..
Do you know anything I can do about it??
Thnx Bas

Mr.Swan, I've already emailed you with my compliments on this level. Now, I'm going to say them here.

This level was SUPERB. I don't like it when levels concentrate on new textures, and don't require you to think much in the end. Hunt-for-the-key and the rest of it.

But this level made me think a bit. I died MANY times. 'Specially in the...Oh, can't ruin it for the others.

My only request? Save those Lieutenants! Well, at least I THINK that they're Lieutenants...the man and the woman!!

SUPERB! Tally-ho on the next part!!

I've been waiting for the sequel from the original the New Empire, and this level was all i expected it to be. It has the best cutscenes ive seen so far! Although when i used the icon to load the program, it sometimes freezes and closes on you. Other wise its a great level!

This is without a shadow of a doubt one of the best additions to Jedi Knight that I have ever played. Sure, you have those superb levels such as Imperial Siege on Derra IV and Warzone II, but neither of the two come close in terms of architecture, realism, and the many unique puzzles that greet the player along the way. From the wall crushing waste disposal system in the first level of TNE2 to the unique way of entering the fuel corridor in level 3, the addition combines problem-solving and originality. The architecture in TNE2 is just breathtaking and very realistic. For example, in the Research Lab, the lab is appropriately set against a white background, and the various experimentations can be seen and released to attack their masters, providing humor in the process. The waste pipes, storage rooms, escalators, corridors, toilets, and jail cells scream "realism" while giving the author a chance to show his skills at design and background architecture. The final showdown deserves much credit, the culmination of a long hard journey through 3 levels and finally meeting the archenemy face to face in his private quarters equipped with a miniature elevated workstation, which again, is just so realistically designed. Other aspects of TNE2 that kept me in my seat were the addition of two new weapons: the electric discharger and the rapid-firing superweapon. Add to that a bunch of new enemies, mad scientists, some tough marine squids, and a handful of new bogeys and it's almost like stepping into JK3. Finally, TNE2 provides one of the best introductions and conclusions I have ever seen and the story throughout is well connected. The author definitely deserves much kudos for his work; it's one of the most cleverly designed and carefully planned additions to JK that I have ever seen. I give it a perfect 10.

This level deserves a 10. I honestly believe so. See, Im a RPG type person and I love a good plot and puzzles etc. I would have to say that when I first looked at the screen shots and the size of the file, I was a bit hesitant but now, I suggest that IT IS WORTH THE WAIT. I only noticed a few, minor graphics glitches but those are norm for most addon levels, especially singleplayer. I saw a post above that someone was shaking a finger at the voice acting, well sir, look at it this way, be thankful he even decided to put ANY voice in there! I cant wait untill the third part!!!! This one should be fantastic, a ship, thats sinking! One thing I was a little confused about, in the end cutscene, it shows the woman commander and the male commader talking about how the ship is falling and crap, well, where in gods name are they? Cause I just came from the bridge and everything in there was obliterated. lol.

What happens to kyle will be shown in TNE3. Don't worry, he doesn't die or anything.

Actually, I've now shortened The New Empire to three parts, and part 3 will have three levels: One on the sunken ship, and the other two in a city.

Anyway, where did you get the textures, and might you know how I can fi all those annoyig textures with littl pink spots on them? (Those last two questions were for the level I am building). Thanks for the great lvls, Chris, and I thought the opening cutscene in TNE: I was GREAT! Keep up the good work!

Ghost's review:

Texture: Hmmm... I must say architecture was quite done well my only prob is that the sewer walls sometimes can be seen through but thats just a minor problem...

Gameplay: One word...WOAH! From the new enemies and guns, to the fantastic (and sometimes amusing) cutscenes, to the amazing fuel system, and finally the cool captain quarters all amazed me! My only gripe is the dronogo water creature... why is it hard to kill? I gave it 2 rails and it did squat! But the rest absoultely amazing! What I liked about it most was when you shut down the power to the lab and watch the scientists and the stormtrooper get ripped to shreds :)

Final Comments: Amazing, fanatistic and this level pack will stay on my hard drive!

9. There were just afre problems. One is that thoose fish things in the trash compactor were very hard to kill, and they took like 30 shots to knock under, and had a ver y far reach. The puzzle to get out was hard too. And don't make another escalator; it looked like one huge HOM effect/

In a word this level is... "Wow." This and it's predecessor are two of the best SP missions out there. Single Player missions have become a lost art in a world of Death Match arenas. Chris, you've nailed this one right on the head. The level is magnificent, there are of course minor errors here and there, but nothing too serious. And I'd like to say in rebuttal to the escalator comment, I thought it looked great on my computer. It didn't look like HOM effect at all... but I don't recall ever seeing an escalator in the SW universe before... (Though I loved how dead bodies would be deposited in a pile at the top).

Hope to see your work in the future. Keep up the good work.

In the spirit of TFN.net -

THE GOOD:

The opening cutscene alone put MotS to shame. But we also have new weapons and oodles of new effects, and some damn good puzzles. I'd rank this just behind Derra IV.

THE BAD:

There's an invisible ceiling in the lift between levels A and B, and some other minor bugs in that area on the level A side. I also would have liked some more voice actors and maybe one less prison level. But these are very minor.

THE UGLY:

This is a tossup between the garbage disposal and the waterfall. And then there's the Dead Man's Escalator. But I vote for the waterfall because of how helpless I felt when I was stuck to the grating. glub glub glub...

By the way, how do I get past that vast chamber with the two conveyor belts at the start of level B? Can't open the doors. Can't pass the red force fields. Can't break the glass on the observation decks.

Can't wait for the third installment in the series, either. *cracks whip*

There are many things I really don't like about this level. First is the ridiculous amount of bugs I found causing the game to crash for seemingly no reason. Second was the long and incredibly screwed up cutscenes in which 9 times out of 10 the pirates would rout the Imperials, or would stop firing at each other and run around aimlessly; another annoying part is the voice acting, which was excrutiatingly poor. Third, the features consisting of new weapons and that invincible sewer creature that kills you almost instantly really have no point, the weapons are weak, and have too short of a range. Another problem is level design in which most things are placed and designed unrealisticlly. Does it make sense that there's a window in the trash compactor? No. Does it make sense that there's hallways and bridges linking key sectors of a ship floating in fuel? No. Does it make sense that there's an intricate set of acqueducts and waterworks teeming a seemingly invincible society of monsters? No. Does it make sense that seeminly 80% of the ship is filled with cargo rooms, fuel pipes, and elevators? No.

Please, anyone who reads this, don't download it.

Alexi Stukov, your comments are not only offensive, but they are totally incorrect. What do you hope to gain by posting a pack of lies in the middle of 40 positive comments? I don't think it's going to stop people downloading this, which is obviously all you're trying to do. You are pathetic.
