Episode 1 and Trilogy Sabers

The Massassi Temple » Levels/Mods » Jedi Outcast Mod » Episode 1 and Trilogy Sabers

Description

This mod fuses the best of other mods together. It uses Lordvaders uber-saber mod to make the trails smoother. It uses Wanderer's Shadowsaber glows to better emulate the Ep1 glows. Last but not least it uses Greg Wilson's weaponglow mod to make the blaster shots have dynamic lighting. I got permision from all these authors. Then I added the saber cores and some changes to enemy AI which also includes better dismemberment possibilities.

WAYNE_70, try downloading again. I've had that problem, but its not the file.

WOW firestorm, someone finaly got the right idea! Not only do your sabers look fantastic - and they dont flare at the bottom of the blade! - but you actually compliled several mods in one(with permission)!

If more authers would (with permission only) compile mods together perhaps somday a good BIG mod will come out. Those are the type I usually look for.

Anyuway I gave it a 10

you installed it incorrectly.

very nice mod; it's nice to see modders(and mods) coming together like this.

only one problem, and this is a matter of personal preferance: i would like the classic sabers to stand out a little more. they are basically the original saber with a thinner core. make some more modifications to it.

also, it would be nice to see more colors.

rating: 9 out of 10

Yeah, more colors would be cool, but I don't knwo if anyone has even found out how to do that (so far all the saber mods edit or overwrite the sabers that are allready there)

I couldnt get the dynamic lighting with the blaster bolts. Is that just because Im trying it in MP? or do I have to turn it on or what?

Well Dynamic blaster shots only work in SP and if you have dynamic lights on in options.

What i wanted to do in this mod was make Ep1 sabers. Using my saber core and then i finally, out of experimentation, used the original glow (that are in the game) with my saber core to make Trilogy sabers. Sorta like a little extra.

This mod was made mainly for SP so lots of things might not work in MP.

You guys are taking a step in the right direction, movie-realistic effex! Can't wait to play!

Actually, don't like the dynamic blaster effex, blaster shots only cast light when they hit walls, not when going past them. The sabers in question are good, just that the trilogy sabers look too much like the default JK2 saber. But let me get this clear to all modders: lightsabers don't cast light! Someone please at least remove this!

Lightsabers don't cast light? You sir are very wrong. First off, the are called LIGHTsabers. Second, EP1 shows the lightsabers giving off light, and EP2 even shows them with colored lighting. Third, the SW Encyclopedia defines the lightsaber and says that it gives off light... Lightsabers do, in fact, give off light.

The blaster shots should only make light when hitting, though. EP4 was on TV tonight, and I noticed that.

The screenshots dont do this one justice, I mean at first I didn't want to download cause of the screenshots. But once I did, man this is one cool mod no doubt. I always thought JO saber were good enough, but now, they are inferior to these babies.
Oh and about different sabercolor, open the console (SHIFT ~) and type devmapall, and then type sabercolor x where is green, red, blue, purple, yellow and orange.
Maybe this is old news but still I thought I mention it

Well i don't know. In Rogue Leader the blasters give off light... i just figured that Lucas could never really add them in the movies.

Its true though, in Ep1 and from what ive seen in Ep2, the lightsabers do give off light (only in a few scenes). So im just assuming that blaster bolts give off light as well (since its kinda odd to have something glow with a corona and not give off any light).

The screenshots were actually darker when i sent them in. I hardly play the game that bright (i use the recommended brightness when i can barely see the number 6 on that bar).

I could have added different colors but that would mean overwriteing old colors, as of now i have no clue how to add in more then the default number of saber colors.

1 thing i was working on was to make the blasters emit lots of smoke when hitting a wall (watch EP4 for this, and you'll see that the rooms fill up with smoke) and have better blaster marks (like the ones on the textures, at the end of the game on Yavin4), though with my very limited editing skills i failed. I don't really feal like finishing those ideas, granted the blaster marks are easy ( i just need paintshop) but making a foggy room with blaster fire would need some editing to the code (not just changing some graphics).

Goshdarnit, Emon, they only give off light in LOW light conditions, ok(remember JK1?). Don't tell me I'm wrong its just I haven't seen them give off COLOURED light at all in movies. Once I make a mod it will correct many things about sabers and blasters but you don't have to download it, kapeesh? But thanx for supporting my point on the blasters ;).
Btw, Firestorm, methinks only laser cannons give off bright light when passing objects. I think I saw it in Ep1 as well as a few scenes in the trilogy. I think you should make the Trilogy set of sabers like Luke's final lightsaber; intensely lit. that would be coooooollll. The smoke thing would be cool if you get it to work, but also try and have their be more sparks as well(a la ESB and ROTJ).

I gave this mod an 8. But most of that 8 goes to the authors of the compiled mods. I do give you part for the A.I. tweaking etc... As far as the whole glowing thing goes, sabers do give off light, but not colored light. the reason is that sabers aren't made of light, they're made of pure energy. Pure energy can be displayed in the forms of light and heat. The reason that sabers are colored is that the light energy given off is refracted through a crystal that gives it it's color. the light energy is however transfered mostly to the heat energy that allows it to be used as a weapon. This is the reason that the light is seen to only a certain point while the heat energy actually extends much further. At the point where the light is no longer seeable most light energy goes away; but small fragments continue. Because these fragments are not intense enough to showup as only one part of the spectrum, the objects it hits reflect their own color instead of the saber's color. Blaster bolts on the other hand do give off their color. Blaster bolts carry the light energy with the heat as it goes. The light energy retains it's intensity and therefore wil reflect the color of the spectrum that it represents. All "glowing" is really limited to low light areas and does not really take effect in well to medium lit areas.

Thank you for clearing that up(about time, man). Just why do you think that in some of the photos for Ep. 2 there is blue light cast on Obi's hair and face, though? Is it just a mottled reflection of the blade itself on his shiny skin and hair? I also saw on the book cover of The Approaching Storm the same thing but there was light on his matte tan clothes, though! Maybe the artist/photo editor wanted to make it look cool.

Maybe nobody thought to sit down and devise actual physics for an entirely fictional device.

The mod itself is good. I can't give you full credit for it since most of the original effects came from other people, but you can have a five for putting it together and working on dismemberment.

Smooth as Milk, your description of the physics behind why lightsaber light should not be colored is probably the most convoluted chunk of pseudo-physics i've ever come across. No offense, my good sir, but why try to justify the effects of a fictional weapon in a fictional universe with physics? Besides, i've yet to see any colored light source that gives off entirely uncolored/untinted illumination. Just let the modders do their thing, and pick whichever you have the most fun with :)

This is very nice! I love seeing mods coming out so quickly for a relatively recent game. Fixing the sabers is a great start to what I'm sure will be the base for many mods to come! I rated this a 9, regardless of lighting...I must say...whether or not sabers or blaster shots are SUPPOSED to give off light...it adds alot to game play.

This is sweet, but the sabers are switched around... the episode 1 sabers are supposed to be the trilogy sabers, and vice versa! 9/10
