Kyle - High Quality Skin

The Massassi Temple » Levels/Mods » Jedi Knight Mod » Kyle - High Quality Skin

Description

A new, hi-poly, hi-detail Kyle! You play with this one long enough, you will realize just how "blocky pokey" LEC's model was. (it won't take long to notice the difference, belive me! Especially if you deactivate it after a while) The model has 1329 surfaces.

Aside from having a nice-looking model to play with in Single Player (and in Multiplayer), this model was released to provide authors with a new base model to make their skins (it works with the LEC puppet too!). The Kyle model will appear again in Nightfire and in PWP3.

By the way, Kyle got the Massassi Temple's envied "Screenshot of the Day". You can look through the archives for 2004-08-29 to see it. :)

Impressive. Now if we only had a talented skin artist to update the mats, we could go 16-bit! lol.

Very well done. Asside from some seams with the knee-caps, and what I think the head is just a tad too big, it's perfect. A needed update to JK's kyle. 9.5/10 rounds up.

Well, the bottom half looks just a little too big in the screenshots, I'll rate after I download....

You couldn't have gone for 8 more surfaces? :(

It was ok I guess. Kind of late in the time to be making remakes of Kyle Katarn, plus it doesnt make the game any more fun considering the years we've, or myself personally, have played Jedi Knight. 4/10

Jenny, I believe your supposed to be rating on the quality of the work, not wether or not you think it's the "Right time." I really don't think you rated fairly.

Glad to see that people like this.

But judging by the rating, it looks like someone doesn't like it and won't tell me why :( (I did the math and somebody other than Jenny (btw, no biggie :) ) rated about 5 or less, assuming 3 were 9's and 2 were 10's; no, I'm not stupid; I know math ;) ). If you really feel it deserves such a rating, please tell me what is wrong!

(Or are you just jealous that you can't make something so cool :p ;) )

Oh, no; 8 more surfaces would have killed JK ;)

Darth, I only comment to downloads with detailed suggestions/constructive criticism, or when I think the piece of work is very impressive. Your work falls into the latter. My god, this is brilliant. Truly a great job. Ten out of ten!

Have you considered doing re-doing all the other regular JK skins? In fact, with this kyle katarn model, you could texture the other models like Dark Kyle, Trainer, and the colored kyles (Green, Red, Orange, etc...) But...are you thinking of doing any projects for the others?...

You know, I'd be willing to work with you on a project to update all of the models for JK, including projectiles, weapons, internal models, external models, and whatnot. I think it'd be interesting, actually.

^^ yeah, I started on a Boba fett skin too. So far I only got the helmet done.
Surprisingly, the LEC fett skin was actually pretty nice on the helmet, so I'll have to debate on whether to keep mine or LEC's (I'll keep my scanner thingie that's attached to the helmet though). He should still be on the Editor's corner (I added, but didn't showcase, since I was still working on it).

But the skin I really wanted to do was the Stormtrooper -- that would be fun to make.

If there were to be a JK skin remake, any help would surely be appreciated (and if we can find someone to make new textures, that would be a real bonus!). So far, we have done:
Kyle
Jan (and Sariss) -- MaDaVentor's model, except textured and with some small adjustments (though I may go back and fix an issue that I didn't know how to fix before)
most of Fett's helmet

thus, really, only these need models:
Bossk
C3po
Greedo
(possibly) the tusken
the imperials
the rest of Fett (which I will probably do)

the rest of the skins can be derived from Kyle with only minor tweaks.

Oh, I was only counting player skin models btw; I don't have any new weapon/projectile/powerup models

Looks cool. But I think the head is a litle to big and it would be grate if you'd give it some 16-bit. I give it a 9

Highqual skins for more multiplayer charectors, or a highqual skin with no shoulder pads or 2 shoulder pads, please. :D

Also it would be great if it were easier to edit... Cause you can't edit it in jed...

Well, you *should* be able to edit it in Jed, because that's what I used to edit it... (plus notepad for offset editing and ForceRemap for texturing)

Quick fix for removing his shoulderpad: for each surface of the pad, hit Alt+Del (delete surface), then select all the vertices and delete them -- unfortunately, Jed will only delete one surface at a time, so you need to do this for each one.

Quick fix for adding a shoulderpad: copy the k_rshoulder mesh, flip it about the x axis, and position it where the left shoulder is; delete the original left shoulder, and rename the layer of the copied shoulder to "k_lshoulder". You will need ForceRemap to realign the textures if you do this in Jed.

Hey Darth Slaw will you be making some updates to this file couse it's some thing i'd realy like to see. And I think making a mod with re-made models is a cool idea.

Yeah, any ideas are welcome. :)

Possibly at some point a set of new models (maybe some new animations too) will be released.
