Description

In 1997, we learned that we're not alone in the galaxy; this discovery changed the course of history and thrust humanity onto the galactic stage. And what a weird galaxy it is. After a variety of adventures, Grismath left Earth many years ago and has been roaming the galaxy. Now 68 years old, he must come to terms with his own mortality and think about his legacy.

The description and screenshots for this level don't do it justice. I can't describe how much I enjoyed it. It's been a long time since I dusted off my copy of JK and spent some time playing but I'm glad I did, if only for this level (although it's really a pack of levels).

First, you'll want to get the Unofficial patch from jkhub.net (JKUnofficialPatch_2008-01-16.zip); I played the first few parts without it and suffered through some HOM glitches and missing "things" before I realized the patch was required. The second to last part wouldn't load without the patch. When you load it, in order to play you have to go into the "debug" section to see the episode (no big deal if you use the included instructions and batch file to launch).

Now the good parts. It's obvious Gris put so much effort into this mod. The first few parts turn JK into a 3rd-person point-and-click adventure type game! There are inventive puzzles and comedy and cool original characters and artwork.

The next couple of parts have you back in first person solving multi-part original puzzles which actually make sense (not just "find the key, open the door" type things). What I really liked is that if you're way off track it gives you hints in-game so it doesn't become frustrating. And zombies. And a conspiracy of epic proportions.

My 12yo son who plays modern games on his fancy gaming PC got hooked on this; I had to shut it down to get him to go to bed last night.

Download it, play it, definite 10 out of 10.
