Level of the Week - Brian @ 1:54 PM
I guess it's named "Map of the Week" now, sorry. Perhaps the name should be changed to something more general, as maps, mods, and skins are all eligible. Anyway, I outputted the Level of the Week early so I could test for errors in my scripts (I will be gone this weekend so I can't do it then). There were a couple, but I think I've sorted them out. From now on, Levels of the Week will be outputted every Saturday morning. However, this Saturday will be skipped intentionally (to make sure there is at least a week of voting time before the next LotW). There is also a Level of the Week Archive that has a graph showing the breakdown of votes per level and per week. Note: No, I still don't work here and I don't have any plans to contribute more in the near future. Any questions or comments regarding this site should be sent following the instructions.

The DNS servers for massassi.net have changed, so there may be some downtime over the next few days, or even the week. The changes will have to propagate to the DNS servers. Thanks for your patience.

Also, if you notice Massassi being slower than usual, our host has experienced some serious network problems and some denial of service attacks recently.

Description: A remake of my MOTS Sabers Pad level for JK2. It is designed for Duels but FFA and Team modes are included if that is your preference. No guns or Force pick-ups are in the level, but feel free to e-mail me if you'd like them in a later version. Bot support is included but they have something of a tendency to fall into the pit if you're fighting on the lower level. The level is INTENDED to be small and simple, so don't bother criticising it for being so. I hope you like it!

Description: Based on the original Loading Terminal map from Dark Forces 2: Jedi Knight, this map has a fun layout with many routes around the level. Aside from the standard weapons there are traps that can be activated by players and force fields. Although it was based on the original Nar Shaddaa Loading Terminal map as much as possible, alterations had to be made due to the changes in game engine and features, but hopefully it will retain the enjoyment factor. Some of the updates are now that it supports all gametypes, the gun turrets now fire more randomly, and it has improved bot support. The forcefield must be toggled on and off. It has working conveyers, tunnel traps, and improved level sounds.

Description: Qui San Keim's Bio: An old Master of the force from Tatoonie who became blind after a dangerous cargo bay explosion, in which his father died, when Qui was only 8. As an orphan he was kidnapped and sold to an old farmer, Juhn Dati, a retired Jedi. Juhn trained him against any knowledge of the Jedi Council and within 1 year , given Qui's already enhanced sense's due to his blindness, he had succeeded into becoming one of the few Jedi's of Tatoonie. As soon as the Jedi Council knew of Qui's advanced learning skills, they invited him to the Jedi Academy so he could learn under the wing of Master Fiu. By the age of 24, Fiu had taught Qui so well, Qui had accelerated past him and graduated as a member of the Jedi Council. Unfortunately he was sent into hiding after the elimination of the Jedi Masters by Darth Vader and he has been living out his life back on the farm where he was taught the way of the force.

Official JK2 1.04 Patch to Be Released Tomorrow - blujay @ 5:56 PM
Tomorrow (Thursday) evening, LucasArts will released the official 1.04 patch for JK2. It will be put on the official JK2 page on LEC's site. Kenn Hoekstra posted the news in his .plan update. Changes in 1.04 include:
  • Corrected issue which caused servers to crash in rare instances.
  • Corrected issue causing damage not to ramp up and down properly when using the backstab move in light saber stance.
  • Corrected bug allowing players to pivot while executing backstab moves in all stances. Players may no longer pivot when executing these moves.
  • Fixed bug causing force pull to be unblockable by people with equal or greater pull rank.
  • Adjusted ammo usage of the Imperial repeater alt-fire.
  • Fixed bug allowing inventory items to be used in FFA saber challenges.
  • Corrected an exploit which allowed players to fall from large heights at a slow rate.
  • Corrected issue which caused pain sounds not to play properly when hit by opponents. Pain sounds should now be relative to the amount of damage taken.
  • Saved games are unaffected from 1.03
  • Demos recorded using 1.03 are not compatible with 1.04
  • Mod makers will have to update their mods to reflect new the IP protocol introduced in 1.04. This will be a minor adjustment to your existing mod stuffs.
  • Once you upgrade to 1.04, only servers running version 1.04 will be visible in your in game browser. There may be a short period of time where there are few 1.04 servers to play on as server admins update to the new version.

Description: As it is not shown in the 2 screenshots that this level is very big. It's very big. It has great room for RPG and is awesome for FFA guns. Bare in mind that this is a FF level. Even if you hate full force, get it and use force jump. The level is a lot more fun. It is also a very "tall" level. It also supports Team FFA. I HIGHLY recommend reading the README file for all secret areas.

However, I think this represents the Emperor well enough until the model comes out. A lot of time went into the face, so hopefully you'll like it. The EC Floods - blujay @ 7:04 PM
I'm sure you all have noticed the EC floods being perpetrated by the user going by the names BigScaryTheBear, The Trout, BigReverandTheBear, BigFuzzyTheBear, and TheBigOne. He was posting legitimate things on the EC as TheBigOne, but I had a suspicion it was him, and finally he gave himself away completely.

He has posted these abuses from several ISPs, including America Online, Insight Broad Band Services, and Covad Communications. I have not contacted AOL since I believe that would be pointless; they have never responded to any complaints I have sent them about anything. Insight BB did respond to my e-mails, until the last one I sent, which has gone unanswered. I will resend that one if necessary. I just sent one to Covad, and we shall see what they do.

I do not know who this user really is, why he's doing this, or what he has against us. But let me assure you, we will win this war against him. There are many methods of dealing with him, and I will exercise them all.

I am leaving his last EC post on there so his ISP can see it as evidence. I am also saving copies of his abuse locally for future reference. I encourage everyone to make use of the EC for what it is intended and fill it with good posts to drown out his garbage.

MP Mode Bug in JO v1.04 - Takimoto @ 5:12 AM
I believe I've discovered a bug in the 1.04 patch for Jedi Outcast. No matter what type of multiplayer level, all are now available for play in Jedi Master mode. My guess is that either Raven or Lucasarts wanted all default maps to now be playable in this mode, and removed any restrictions on it in the latest patch. However, this also applies to all addon levels as well; even levels which do not include the lightsaber item pickup, making it impossible to actually have this type of game mode in this map. I have already confirmed this bug with several people and various addon maps (which incidentally didn't have this gametype listed in their *.arena files). If you would all be so kind as to verify my assumptions, and email me if you have the same problem, then perhaps we can get this changed in a later patch version. As a temporary fix, I suggest that level authors make allowances for this mode when making their levels, as there's currently no way to prevent it.

Description: Well guys, I'm here to bother you with RandSaber again.

For you guys who haven't been here since the last one, I'll start from the very beginning.

The Lightsaber:
1. Light motion trails/new graphics - every last saber mod these days has these two things, so why shouldn't I?
2. Swing - Fire 1 swings your saber. You randomly do one of 55 swings.
Each swing does LEC heavy fire damage. During a swing you will automatically deflect all deflectable bullets coming at you from any angle.
This only works with deflectable bullets. Concs and detenators (thermal/rail) can't be blocked.
Lightsabers, however, can only be blocked from the front, like regular JK.
While swinging, you are slowed down dramatically.
3. Color change - Fire 2 changes your saber color. That's all I should have to say about it.
Observer Mode/Fists
While testing, a certain st00p n00b kept killing me with fists out.
I invented observer mode.
1. Fists = peace.
You hold your inactive saber, or you put away your gun. You have god mode and you run faster, but you can't fire or use force powers.
2. Boxing toggle.
In the last release, a lot of people said they missed fists.
Well, press fire 2 to toggle between observer mode and fists. You now punch hella fast.
I AM AWARE that a bunch of you will try to get cheap with this. If you do, I'll set it up to fade you when you abuse it.

Lockon/Fieldlight
This is a JK Aimbot. You're always facing directly at your opponent. It's really cool during duels, but it lags a lot sometimes.
It uses fieldlight.

Agility/Bacta
1. Ground manuevers
Press Bacta on the ground. While running forward, you will do what is referred to as "a really freakin' high jump."
Press backwards and you do a back handspring.

2. Aerial Acrobatics
Press Bacta in midair and, depending on direction, you'll do a front, back, left, or right flip.
If you hit the wall feet-first while flipping, you'll do a wallrun.

New Force Powers
I decided that most of the force powers were really unecessary, so I decided to trim them down to only those I've seen in the movies.
I actually saw one more, but they weren't of real consequence, so I didn't bother.
Most of these powers don't use much mana at all.

Neutral Powers
Telekinesis/Force Pull
This power, by default, merely by selecting, will target an object with a white target reticle. If you activate the power, it will lock on to that particular item. It will hold you in place, and as you press backward, it will pull the object to you. Forward will push it. Left and right make it go left and right. Crouch makes it rise, and letting it go makes it go down. Targetting is pretty darned accurate.
Force Speed
This power is cool - when you hold down the button, you have constant acceleration. It's kinda hard to explain, but it means that there's no drag while you hold down the button. You will maintain a constant pace if you keep this force on but let go of 'forward,' and will accelerate if you press forward again. You can go infinitely fast with this, but I suggest you exercise caution, because if you hit a wall too hard with this, you are DEFINITELY dying.

Light Powers
Force Persuasion
No more assuming you're weak of mind. Force Persuasion tries to 'persuade' you to stay in place. You can counter this easily, provided you're of the strong of mind. There is a way, it's simple, just figure it out.
Force Absorb
I did NOT make this cog. It's ShadowX's cog. It's just the regular force absorb, but toggleable on/off. I'm sorry for using someone else's cog, but I'm not very good with activated/deactivated messages, and when the finished product is staring you in the face, it's hard to resist.

Dark Powers
Force Lightning
Now you get some bang for your buck with this power. It shoots twice as fast, with four bolts of lightning.
Force Grip
This is just regular grip.

Physics
You jump higher. You get hangtime. You fall slower. You can wallrun up to the ship in bgj, jump off, and land without a scratch.

Description: Based off the Tyrion model made by António "BloodRiot" Perestrelo & Tim "Absath" Buckley, this is a decent skin considering the lack of a Emperor model. However, I think this represents the Emperor well enough until the model comes out. A lot of time went into the face, so hopefully you'll like it. Skin includes BOT Support with attachments to Vader and Count Dooku. This is a very early stage and should be updated soon.

Lately I've noticed a couple of submitted levels/mods where the author asked us to post it as soon as we got it, or to give priority to it for some reason. Please don't ask for special treatment when you submit material; we always try to post levels or mods in the order they're received to be fair to everyone.

However, if you really want to speed up the process of our posting your material, you should make sure of a few things:
  1. Submit it exactly per instructions.
  2. Use proper spelling/grammar/punctuation in your description.
  3. The screenshots should be 800x600 or less and should each be no more than 100KB. Of course we will modify them if they aren't but this takes time. :)

Acid Storage Facility 2 is my first map for Jedi Outcast. It is the sequel to my first map for Jedi Knight. I'd worked on it off and on for a few months, and finally decided to scrap it since it just wasn't going where I wanted it to. With enough pushing from Takimoto, I was finally persuaded to finish the project, and I'm glad I did. A special thanks goes out to the people who helped me complete this map: Takimoto, JM, Dethlord, and Gonkish. I hope everyone enjoys the map!

This is my first actual map, not just that I've published but actually created. It was my first time with JKRadient too, so I had to figure out how to do things as I went, which is also why it took so long to complete. So if it seems a little amateur in places, you know why :)

Jedi Knight Qui-Zan Buuzza left recently on a mission to source out the Emperor's Secret Villa on the planet Endor. Word was received from him that the Emperor had a data disc with the new Death Star's security plans. We lost transmission with him and have not heard from him since.
The republic are now sending in Kyle Katarn to locate this data disc and to rescue the jedi.
Even now, Kyle is on his way to the heavily guarded Villa.
Rumour has it that the Emperor has trained an elite group of sith warriors to be his personal bodyguards.

I took a lot of time to do nice scripting for this stage. There are many comments from my last map and other people's maps including the following.

1) Some people don't like ladder fighting maps. This isn't a ladder but there is definately a lot of fighting.
2) People want realism. Star Wars is not realistic so no, my map is not realistic - to the movie storyline yes.
3) I used proper sky this time round.
4) A lot of people found my last map too hard. This one isn't going to be easier. See difficulty notes (in readme) if you cannot finish the map.

Storyline :

After visiting the Emperor's Villa on Endor, Kyle found various notes indicating some of the Emperor's secret locations around the universe. The Rebel Alliance has tracked the Emperor's ship to a fairly large courthouse on the planet of Bakura. Kyle and a small force of Rebel soldiers are on there way to locate the Emperor and seek out his devious plans...

As many of you might have noticed, massassi.net has been going down from time to time occasionally (that is, when you try to go to it, you get a "We cannot find this page" or something of the sort). First off, if you didn't know, you can also access massassi via the address http://66.250.66.159/, so try that if you can't access massassi. Secondly, the file and screenshot FTP also goes down, usually when the site does. How does this affect you? Well, we can't post files if the FTP is down. Because of this, some of the files you submit may be delayed in posting. I was in the middle of posting a file today when I got disconnected from the FTP. I had to wait 2 hours before I could finish posting that file. We ask for your patience and apologize for any inconvenience this may cause.

Description: This is the official map (FFA) for The Jedi Academy (http://academy.jediknightii.net).  JA has 4 main dueling rooms; each one is unique in design to support different dueling scenarios/situations.  Every training room is identified with a Symbol above each entrance.  Lower doorways lead to the training arenas, whereas the upper level is for the observation decks. You can also use the elevators for quicker access; [it goes] from [the] arena to observation deck. The courtyard is 95% true to its Single Player version. The courtyard is the only place you'll be able to acquire all the weapons, ammo, and equipment. (note, I am submitting this for derelict crusader since he is on vacation, and he built the map for my site)

Description: An ancient temple on a distant planet, the Grand Temple of Fire was built centuries ago by powerful Jedi Masters using the Force in place of tools. Fire symbolized the pride and power of the Jedi, and this temple was used as a training ground and mediation area for Jedi Padawans. However, after the Empire came to power and the Jedi were killed, the temple was abandoned and forgotten in the passage of time. Decades later, it was discovered and reopened by Jedi Master Luke Skywalker, to be used to train his new order of Jedi Knights. The power of the Force has kept the flames burning since the opening of the temple, and will keep them burning until the end of time. May the Force be with you!

JediHowell sent word that the Call of the Force modification is in need of some assistance. Here is what he had to say:
FuShanks sends out an SOS: In order to see Jedi Knight 2: Call of the Force completed, the dev team requires assistance. If you have any interest in joining the team - be you mapper, skinner, scripter, or other - do not hesitate to contact me via email at fushanks@telefragged.com. You will be given a task with clear goals, and you will be doing your part to ensure that COTF is released before we all die of old age. You will be asked to provide samples of your work, and if accepted you'll be working as part of a cabal of developers with six-plus years of experience under their collective belt. As a more personal incentive, your work will be high-profile, you will be fully credited for your contributions, and you'll get to see all the hidden dev areas of the website.
