Fileserver is back... for now - Cool Matty @ 8:23 AM
The Massassi Fileserver seems to have worked its own bugs out, and has been up for a full 12 hours now, so I am going to make an assumption that everything is working again. As previously said, if the site does go down, the backup is still available. I'll leave the backup server running for about three more days, until I am absolutely sure the main server is working fine. Until then, feel free to use either server (perferably the main since it is easier, and faster).

The backup server can still be found here. Thanks for your patience.
File Posters, Etc. - Brian @ 1:23 PM
If you are a file poster, and would like to continue being one, please send me an email. I don't know who all has access, and I'm going to change the passwords shortly, so I need to know who out there will need the new ones. Also, since the files server has been down so long, doubtless there are dozens of files waiting to be posted, so any help would be greatly appreciated!

We recently secured our new dedicated server. We will be slowly moving the site over the next month or two. First I have to get everything configured. Anyway, when the dedicated server is up and running, and the site is back to normal, we will be again recruiting staff members and file posters. At that time, we will put out an announcement, so if you send me an email now, it won't do much good!

LucasArts And Pandemic Studios Team Up For New Fps - DSettahr @ 11:55 PM
LucasArts and Pandemic Studios are working on a new FPS titled "Mercenaries" for the PS2 and the Xbox, which will be released later this year. Gamespot has a 2 page "First Look" preview of the game.

Mercenaries tells a tale set in the near future that casts you in the role of--wait for it--one of three mercenaries. You're dispatched to North Korea's demilitarized zone after the political situation in the region takes some unpleasant turns that snowball into a rather nasty state of affairs. A military coup by some hardliners in the military leaves the country in chaos, which is admittedly already not a good thing. To make the situation worse, the country has medium and long-range missile capability as well as a nuclear weapon. Factor in that the one person with the launch codes for the missiles, which could potentially send the nuke on a destructive one-way trip, has disappeared, and you have a serious problem in need of a solution. You are that solution. Your goal is to go into the region, go through a UN-provided list of the most-wanted individuals--offered in handy playing-card form much like the system used recently in real life by the US military--and bring all 52 of them in, which should help restore order.
There are also screenshots of the game available here.

ForceRemap Gets A New Website, Goes Open Source - DSettahr @ 10:30 AM
Molotov42 has given his ForceRemap Website a major overhual, and made the project open source.
I should give you an update on ForceRemap (the UV mapping program for Jedi Knight). The website has been moved and has seen a major update. The official site is now located at: http://www.thecia.net/users/garcher/forceremap/ (which was originally one of the mirror sites.) In addition to the new website, an improved tutorial has been added which better demonstrates the program's capabilities.

ForceRemap is a skinning utility for the 3DO file format used in Star Wars Jedi Knight: Dark Forces 2. Features include 6-way orthographic texture mapping and a manual UV coordinate editor. It can also be used as a convenient stand-alone 3DO model viewer. Source code is available under the GNU General Public License.

Also, ForceRemap has been converted to an open source project in the hopes that it will stimulate somebody's interest in game programming. The source code is available for free under the GNU General Public License. All I ask in addition to the guidelines set forth in the GPL is that you make me aware of any projects you release with it. As the original creator I have an interest in the future of the project and would like to hear from you. Give me a shout at garcher@alum.wpi.edu.
You can also provide feedback on the project and the site on this thread on our forums. Thanks to molotov42 for the update.

Free Fallin' Alpha Released - DSettahr @ 6:00 PM
An alpha version of Free Fallin' has been released for Jedi Knight.
Free Fallin' is a skydiving/parachuting mod that was started three years ago by RaDiCe_ and I. There are hotkeys that allow you to open your parachute, to change the flag on your parachute, to get new camera views, and to listen to Free Fallin' music. There are 20 different flags to choose from for your parachute, which includes country flags, original flags, and other flags that you might recognize. There are also four stunts that you can do while in the air or in the water.

By popular demand, I have released Free Fallin' Alpha. This is the current state of the mod; it includes everything we have done so far. It has all of the features mentioned above. However, this is not the final version because we intend to improve this mod and add more fun features.
You can get more information as well as download the mod at www.junkguy.tk. Thanks to Junkguy and RaDiCe_ for letting us know about the release.

Battlefront Demo Rumors - DSettahr @ 1:52 PM
TheForce.net is reporting that there will be a demo for the upcoming Battlefront multiplayer game included with all purchases of the Original Trilogy DVD box set this fall.
The latest issue of Official XBox Magazine reports that a demo for Battlefront will appear with the Classic Trilogy DVD this year. While there isn't much I can say that would make this report seem more credible, I must say that the content of the game seems appropriate for the trilogy, and we did see that Starfighter game ad with the Episode 1 DVD way back.
You can check out the article on TFn here.

Good Luck to JorBo & Hoard - Brian @ 12:17 AM
JorBo and Hoard, two previously active members of the Massassi community, have recently left for their respective terms of service in the Army and the Air Force. The staff of Massassi would like to wish them luck on their journeys and thank them for their commitment to our* freedom.

* I realize that not all Massassi visitors are in/from the United States. This comment was not made to spite you.
The Tweakers' Guide to JA - DSettahr @ 1:21 AM
The Tweakers Guide to JA website is up and running.
http://www.thedigitalsoul.net/tweakersguide

The link above is to a guide I composed from the fragmets of useful information scattered around the net, my own knowledge, and stuff some friends gave me. I could never find a centralized guide that wasn't a fragmented forum thread with bits and pieces in every other post, so I had a: a need for a guide, and b: time on my hands. I made a guide, that brings me to another thing I included, my ultimate tips for Jedi Academy. This will definately be expanded and added to.
You can also provide feedback about the site on this thread in our forums. Thanks to DOTR_Corran2015 for putting this site together and letting us know about it.

Massassi Birthday Celebration Game - DSettahr @ 2:56 PM
Tomorrow is Massassi's 6th Birthday, and as a celebration we will be having a CTF game tomorrow in #massgames. The game will be Large Nar CTF, Force level 0, no mods, and we will start the game around noon (12pm) Eastern. I know a lot of you wanted to play with mods or custom levels, but the logistics of selecting a mod and/or level, and then getting everyone to download it would have been too much. If people want to organize there own smaller games, then thats fine too. Also, remember that #massgames is around 24/7 for anyone who is looking to organize Jedi Knight multiplayer games.

If you are unsure about how to connect to #massgames, you can connect using the chat applet (follow the chat links on the menu on the left). Once connected, simply type "/join #massgames" (without the quotes) and press return.

Battlefront Article On Rebel Soldiers - DSettahr @ 9:39 PM
IGN has posted a new Battlefront-related article. The article provides new information about the Rebel Soldiers that will be available as player classes in the game, as well as the gameplay on maps that involve the Rebel Alliance.
Rebel soldiers come from all walks of life, without the benefit of years of Imperial combat training. But they are unmatched in their will, enthusiasm and devotion to their cause.

They do not wear armor, or engage in standard warfare, preferring guerilla tactics and lightning strikes against the ponderous Imperial juggernaut. The Rebel soldier is effective against infantry, especially when they employ squad-based tactics.

Map-Review Updates - DSettahr @ 12:28 PM
The Map-Review.com has updated with some new articles.
Over at Map-Review.com we have articles on two areas of editing outside our standard map coverage. Manquesa's Vehicle Modding Monthly features a variety of vehicular projects released and in progress for Jedi Academy, as well as looking at Space Combat maps. Prime's Skinning Monthly has a look at the active skinning scenes in Jedi Academy and Jedi Outcast, with Prime running an analytical eye over the skinning for Haplash's Sandtrooper in addition to looking at past, current and future skinning releases.
Thanks to Kengo for letting us know about these updates.

The site contains information, screenshots, etc, about Kyle Katarn and the Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series of games in general. There is also a section of submitted fan art, films, and fiction about the character.
