New Jedi Knight Multiplayer Level: Purgatory - Kedri @ 5:17 PM
File: Purgatory
Author: SM Sith Lord
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: What happens when imaginary power is combined with Jedi Knight editing skill? The answer is Purgatory.

It all starts in the battle field, the Imperial troops are invading your hillside village, and you will not stand still and let this turn of events take place. You gather up as many warriors as you can, and march to certain death against the invading Imperial forces.

After just seconds of fighting you realize the battle is futile, but it is better to die on your feet than live on your knees. You drop to the ground from the force of a laser blast travelling through your body. You fall to the ground feeling the pain, the glory, and the horror of dying in war. Your wounded body lies on the cool grass, while others continue to fight over you. The pain of your wounds nearly drives you to insanity, but your pride gives you a sense of peace, knowing that you died fighting for your freedom. Then you begin to wonder if the price you paid was worth it. You begin to wonder if killing the men from the opposing forces, and sending your own people to their death, was all justified. Then your soul is overtaken by fear, the fear of eternity. The human mind was not designed to think upon such abstract ideas, and you begin to not think at all. You no longer have control over your body, and all you can do is gaze, gaze into your past, and what could very well be your future, you gaze into the eyes of your dead corpse, wasting away to nothing... all in the name of war, the name of death, the name of evil.

You are swallowed up by the heavens, to be given the final test. The questing on this test is simple. There are two choices, life or death, blessing or cursing, both for eternity. Now your fate is in your own hands, a place it was never meant to be held. Welcome to Purgatory.

Taking a Break... - Brian @ 12:06 AM
After years of working on this site, I am going to have to take a month or two off. This is due to the fact that I am elbow-deep in a new project, and I need time without the day-to-day distractions that come from working at Massassi. As of right now, I am off the staff list, off the admin list on the forums, and no longer the active webmaster of this site. If you have any problems whatsoever, please email the staff, not me.

So, anything Massassi related that's mailed directly to me will be ignored. I simply don't have time right now to deal with it!

Please Note: I will be back once this project is complete. Part of the new project involves a new web server, so some time in the next couple of months, Massassi will be moving servers. So as of right now, I leave you in the capable hands of Kedri, blujay, Archimedes, and Juztyn.
New Jedi Knight Multiplayer Level: The Chapel of the Night - Juztyn @ 1:19 PM
File: The Chapel of the Night
Author: Gabriel
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: The stars glow this night, illuminating the walls, with their heaven sent, silk soft touch. Tales of a lost time, unfold in the air, like pages from a book, and the words ride the wind, as their secrets are told, too nothing but air. War is written with the blood of heroes, history, is carved into stone. This level is for 2-4 players, and is a fast action, Saber level.
New Reviewer - blujay @ 3:52 PM
I'd like to welcome DragonPhinn to the review staff. His first review should be posted soon. Welcome, DP!

New SWTTC Select - Archimedes @ 1:58 PM
The Star Wars Trilogy TC has updated the SWTTC Select, which is a page where new, unexplained, and very often pretty screenshots on the project are placed. They also have two new members on the team to help out with some complex detailing, bombshellrapture and cconq; their bios will be posted on the site shortly.
Vangilis Station Updates - Archimedes @ 2:29 PM
Vangilis Station has posted a new 16-bit screenshot on their newest project, codenamed "Nuclear." It seems this project will be featured in 16-bit, for I quote:
Of course, users still stuck in the dark ages with 8-bit only video cards can still have the fun too, just not as much. It loses something in the 256 colour conversion.
So, if you live in the "Dark Ages" like I do, or if you've been converted to industrialism, you need to check it all out at Vangilis Station.

New JK/MotS 3do: seaquest.zip - Kedri @ 6:01 AM
Download: seaquest.zip
Author: Cave_Demon
View: Screenshot
Description: This is a SeaQuest 3DO to use for cutscenes, not levels, because in levels you can see some errors if you walk on this, and this is much too small to be the actual SeaQuest in a level. If you put this in a level of yours, make sure you can't touch it, or even get close to it...
Go Vote! - Brian @ 6:05 AM
Today is election day in the U.S., so if you're a registered voter here, please don't forget to exercise your right that so many have fought and died to defend.
New MotS 3do: ywings.zip - Kedri @ 6:06 AM
Download: ywings.zip
Author: MikeC
View: Screenshot
Description: LEC included a lot of unused stuff on the Mysteries of the Sith CD, including different textures for the starfighters. However, not many people seemed to be making use of these alternate textures. I retextured some ships for Stormtrooper:Vengeance and other levels I am working on, so I decided just to redo all of them in hopes it would add a little more variety to levels. This Y-Wing pack is the first installment. To see more of the retextured starfighters I will be releasing, go to Have Lightsaber Will Travel.

Lucasfilm Sponsors Fan Films - Archimedes @ 6:41 AM
Sounds too good to be true, doesn't it? Well, according to this article, Lucasfilm is now officially sponsoring unofficial fan films, whereas before they were practically illegal.
Lucasfilm has inked an exclusive deal with Netcaster AtomFilms.com, which will give "Star Wars" geeks an official Internet home for their unofficial spoofs and documentaries.
Not only will Lucasfilms be sponsoring all this, but it will also allow resources such as sounds and video clips to be used among filmmakers and animators in their projects. Be sure check this out!

Rbots for Jedi Knight released! - Raynar @ 1:07 PM
The long wait is now over. The Jedi Knight version of Rbots 0.21 is now complete and available for download. This is a rather hefty download weighing in at just over 5Mb, compared to 630k for the MotS version. Keep in mind that the code is ported direct from the current MotS version - bugs and all. Head over to the Rbots website to download it. As always check the readme.txt file for details.

New Jedi Knight 3do: barrel.zip - Kedri @ 8:56 PM
Download: barrel.zip
Author: Schming
View: Screenshot
Description: Rusty old barrel full of sludge. Perfect for use in industrial levels. May need to be scaled to fit your project. I made this after noticing JK has no good barrels or crates so I may make some crates later. Hope you like it.

New Jedi Knight Mod: CIA Mod 2.0 - Kedri @ 8:15 AM
File: CIA Mod 2.0
Author: Willow
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: For those of you who liked CIA Mod 1.0 this is 10,000,000 times better. It's almost the same size but offers new sounds for the guns and now includes a shotgun! The bullets now do anywhere from 5 to 200 damage. You have 100 health instead of 10 and the grapple is now easier to use as you won't die as much from crashing into walls. The machine gun is now the default weapon instead of the crossbow. This is still only my first series of modifications, so it won't be the best patch in the world, but a few people agree it's pretty good. It's important you view the readme file.
New Jedi Knight Mod: Wolverine: Adamantium Claws - Kedri @ 8:24 AM
File: Wolverine: Adamantium Claws
Author: the ~s.y.p.h.e.r.~

To use in multiplayer, simply pre-select the default green saber, and you're off. Best used with the clan of the Wolverine Skin Pack at massassi.net. Should not use with other skins besides default Katarn.
New Jedi Knight Mod: Immortal Sabers Pack 3 - Kedri @ 8:36 AM

Description: This saber pack gives you a much wider variety of designs to choose from and use in JK multiplayer. Every player can see your new saber, even if they don't have this patch. This is for use with Patch Commander, and does not require any BFP's to be able to use it. It has 25 new sabers, in addition to the 37 sabers from Immortal Sabers Pack 2. It also includes the original JK sabers, for a total of 69 sabers.

Time is slipping away... - Juztyn @ 5:13 PM

Contest Deadline - Brian @ 12:09 AM
The deadline is officially over, and I've got a ton of killer levels. However, it has been brought to my attention that some people didn't know to send their level to the contest@massassi.net email address. I will refrain from noting the similarities between this and the people in Florida voting incorrectly. Err... Anyway, if you have sent your level to the wrong address, you need to do three things.

  1. Realize that you failed to follow the instructions that have been made available for the past month. Realize that the rules were not confusing and you had access to them long before the contest deadline. Realize that we have no obligation to accept your submission, since it was your mistake, not ours, that caused the problem. Realize that this post is a direct joke towards the people in Florida that can't follow simple directions, but that we will accept your contest level anyway.
  2. Email the levels address requesting that your level not be posted.
  3. Re-submit your level to the contest@massassi.net address by 6AM Pacific TODAY.

So, in case you missed that, I've just extended the deadline to 6AM Pacific TODAY. That's only 6 hours, but it should be enough for everyone that has to make a few small changes... This note was posted shortly after midnight.

New Jedi Knight Multiplayer Level: Skater Park - Kedri @ 8:39 AM
File: Skater Park
Author: Adam Freid, a.k.a. KAB_DarkMaul
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: This level looks like a skater park. Well, it almost does: it has ramps you can go up by force speed and jump and spin or do something for a trick. If your lucky, you'll jump (hint hint) into the secret area of the level, especially the Disco Skater Area. Have fun in my first-released level!

New Jedi Knight Multiplayer Level: Nostromo II : The Infection - Kedri @ 9:54 AM
File: Nostromo II : The Infection
Author: Spiral
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: This is my first level. I was looking through some of my old disks and found this level. I remembered that there were alot of errors in it, so I was toying with the idea of going back through and fixing them, now that I knew how. I decided to leave it as it is. None of these errors are fatal. Just some paper thin walls, and one non planar surface. This doesn't hurt you or effect anything, you can just walk through the floor, but you don't fall. Be careful around that area, you can get stuck if you try hard enough. Despite how it looks, this level is really fun to play with someone else. There are alot of revives close together, and lots of powerful weapons. Might make for interesting gameplay...

Star Wars Trilogy on VHS Once More - Archimedes @ 1:30 PM
The webmaster of StarSabers.Com sends word regarding the Star Wars Trilogy's return to VHS. This from Star Wars Kids:
On Nov. 21, 2000 the Star Wars Trilogy will be released on VHS for a limited time. This special boxed set of Star Wars: A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back, and Return of the Jedi features an exclusive ten-minute sneak peak of Episode II. Discover how Episode II fits into the Star Wars saga and enjoy the movies with your whole family.
I guess LucasArts was joking when they said the last time they released the Trilogy on VHS it would be the last time. Well, anything for a buck, and it seems LucasArts is hoping to snag some die-hard fans with this 10-minute Episode II preview. For more information, click here.

Swoop Removed? - Kedri @ 4:31 PM
If you were here a couple days ago (and if the e-mail I've received is any indication, a lot of you were), you might've seen a posting of Swoop, one of the most original and brilliant modifications for Jedi Knight that I've seen. Word got to me that the original authors were concerned about the beta being so readily available, and also that a more final version of Swoop may be available. It drives me nuts to think something this good isn't getting the kind of exposure and play that it deserves, so I truly hope we can see Swoop back here soon!

There are some health items and shields, but not many, because I like the Goldeneye idea when you're shot you stay hurt.
New Jedi Knight Multiplayer Level: ReactorDM1: Gothic Deathmatch - Kedri @ 6:09 PM

Description: Do you like hardcore, symmetric deathmatch levels without all of the BS? I designed this level for all of you hardcore NF/FF gunners out there. This level would have fit into just about any FPS game, but I think that Jedi Knight lacks Quake-style deathmatch levels such as this one, so I figured that I would create something that the hardcore gunners could enjoy. This is not a Concussion Rifle infested level like so many that we see popping up all over the place, for in TRUE deathmatch, there is more to strategy than just aiming. Enjoy. ;)

JK Rbots Character Creation Wizard - Archimedes @ 6:52 PM
Rbots has reported glorious news of a wizard utility that will allow you to create new Rbots models from exisiting mulitplayer models, or otherwise known as skins.
The utility will merge the models with the normal JK weapon models to create the Rbots models for use with the Rbots SDK for JK. The MotS version doesn't need this utility as it can use multiplayer models directly. Detailed instructions will be included in part 2 of the tutorial which is now in progress.
Be sure to check out the full story, as well as the downloads page to download this great new feature.

Obi-Wan Is Shown The Door - Kedri @ 2:19 PM
It's a bummer of a day, guys. Obi-Wan, the game we've all been waiting for, is no more. Here's the official company line, cut-n-pasted from the LucasArts site:
Following an extensive review of the project and a great deal of deliberation, LucasArts Entertainment Company has ceased development of Star Wars: Obi-Wan for the PC. The expected breadth and scope of the Obi-Wan project could not be met given limitations of technology and the company's recently heightened quality standards. LucasArts is now planning to bring the game and its assets to a next generation console platform. Further announcements will be made in this regard next year.

LucasArts remains fully committed to developing games for the PC platform, as evidenced by its current development alliances with Verant Interactive, BioWare Corporation, and other soon to be announced projects.

We wish to thank our fans for their continued support through this process and assure them that our number one goal is to provide them with high quality, fun games.
By all means, feel free to chime in on our message board about it.

Level Pack Status - Brian @ 5:56 PM
The judging of levels submitted to the contest is officially over. I will be compiling the list of winners hopefully on Monday. This is due to the fact that some of the judges are gone for this holiday weekend. When the final list is compiled, the winning authors will be contacted about fixing a few small bugs we encountered, and then the pack will be compiled and released. The levels that didn't quite make it (most of the levels submitted were really good) will be released on Massassi before the pack itself.

It still has unlimited neutral force powers and force push as well as unlimited IR. Goggles. Kyle can still do flips and has a new death animation. I also made improvements to singleplayer. Enemies will fire bullets and their guns will make realistic sounds. I have changed the KEY files of most of the enemies deaths. I have made more power-ups for ammo and health. Contest Update - Brian @ 8:46 PM
I have received all the reports from the judges. I will be contacting the winners tomorrow about fixing the few small bugs we found in their levels (I think this is a better approach than releasing a pack with bugs in it - I'm sure there will still be a few, but hopefully not as many). I'm not exactly sure how long this will take, as it depends on the authors. Expect some of the levels that didn't make it to start showing up tomorrow...
Contest Winners Announced! - Brian @ 3:19 PM
The contest winners were announced, and they can be found here. Congratulations to all who submitted levels - the contest was very close, as there were a ton of great submissions. I have emailed the winners with the bug reports, so as soon as they finish up, I will compile the pack and release it. I'm guessing Friday, don't hold me to that, though!

Please Note: We will not be conducting manual recounts. We feel the original count and the machine recount were accurate. If you disagree, please go to Florida and protest.

SAN RAFAEL, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 29, 2000--LucasArts Entertainment Company LLC today announced Star Wars® Galaxies(TM) as the formal series brand name for their massively multiplayer online role-playing games. On November 30 LucasArts, in conjunction with Sony Online Entertainment Inc., will launch the game's official information site, www.starwarsgalaxies.com.

As announced yesterday, www.starwarsgalaxies.com launched this afternoon. Currently it's not much to look at, but the forums are already quite active. Raph Koster, Creative Director at Verant, posted a note on this thread that some people may want to read:
We knew, of course, that there would be skeptics. We're not going to try to keep the skeptics from stating their opinions. Plus, skeptics often have valid concerns, and we can learn from that. As long as everyone stays civil and constructive, honest disagreement is a good thing, it leads to a stronger community. And we want a strong community, one that is open and friendly and that cares about improving the game.

That said, please don't get too skeptical too early. We've got a lot we haven't talked about publicly yet, but over the months to come, more will be revealed. We're definitely aware that the number of players who will likely be interested is going to be a huge factor, and we'll definitely take that into account in the game design.
I'm still skeptic, of course, but I wish Verant luck! :)
