Let's get logo! - Echoman @ 4:27 PM
It's that time of year again! Yes, when Massassi's front page gets updated. To celebrate this evidently once-in-a-year phenomenon as well as the recent volatile incursion of holiday-related cheer into the community's collective mindset, Massassi is kicking off the Holiday Logo Contest 2011. It's a festive tradition with a long history of more than one decade! Oh wow amazing! Do you remember when you were a little kid and you looked forward to Massassi's Logo Contest during these last months of the every year? Well now you are older and more capable than a child (at least physically) so that means you can easily contribute to this ritual and make the new generation of Massassian kids happy. So boot up MSPaint, Photoshop, GIMP or whatever software and let your creativity shine (rules and info here).

Are you unconvinced that there is a new generation of Massassian kids that is populating this modding community? That modern internet culture has not left this green-and-black enclave of the web for the fields of social media? Fear not! You can help a kid somewhere in this world by donating to the Massassian Child's Play Fund instead! More about that here. Tell your friends, family and strangers about these events. And track down old, departed Massassians too and ask them why. Just why.

Happy holidays from the Massassi Temple staff.

Steam is having a massive, five-day long early holiday sale with plenty of new and old titles significantly discounted for a limited time only. The sale, which started today, lasts until Sunday, with different titles receiving discounts at different times during the 5 day event.

Of particular interest to Star Wars fans in this sale is the Lucas Arts Premier Pack, a bundle of nearly every Lucas Arts game available on steam (including the entire Dark Forces/Jedi Knight series in addition to modern titles such as Republic Commando, Star Wars Galaxies, and classics including Armed and Dangerous, The Dig, and Loom). This pack, which is valued at $127.84 (based on the individual purchase price of each game), is available for a limited time for only $49.99. This deal looks like it will be available until Sunday.

Direct2Drive LucasArts Sale - DSettahr @ 9:04 AM
Forum member Brian has brought to our attention that Direct2Drive is having a sale on 13 classic LucasArts games! These 13 games, a $99.87 value, are being offered in a bundle pack for only $39.95, 60% off the individual purchase price.

Included in this bundle pack:

  • The Secret of Monkey Island: Special Edition
  • Armed and Dangerous
  • Star Wars: Republic Commando
  • Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade
  • Indiana Jones and the Fate of Atlantis
  • Star Wars Starfighter
  • Loom
  • The Dig
  • Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic
  • Star Wars: Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast
  • Star Wars: Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy
  • Star Wars: Dark Forces
  • Lucidity

Unfortunately, there is no deal on individual items, so if you already own some or many of these games, the discount may not be worth purchasing the bundle pack. This is a perfect introductory pack for someone who has never had the opportunity to play some of LucasArts best games, however!

The sale ends on November 22, 2009.

For the benefit of Mr. Katarn... - Echoman @ 10:36 PM
If you are plagued with issues related to running 3D Acceleration when using modern hardware for Jedi Knight, try the new fix released recently by community members Emon and, the JKHub overseer, ZeqMacaw. Employing this fix is fairly easy as the only real task you have to perform is dropping a new .dll file in your main Jedi Knight directory. To read information on how this fix works, post feedback and/or give thanks, head on over to this thread or visit the project's home on JKHub. Click ddraw_(hack_viewport3_clear2) on that page.

Those of you who bought the digitally distributed Steam-version of the game need not worry; the fix was made most certainly for you as well.

Jedi Knight collection hits Steam - Echoman @ 6:30 PM
Continuing with their recent partnership with Valve to digitally distribute old, popular titles in the company’s history, LucasArts made available for purchase the complete Jedi Knight series via Valve Corporation’s online game distribution service Steam. To clarify, this includes all of the games in this collection: Dark Forces, Dark Forces II: Jedi Knight, Jedi Knight: Mysteries of the Sith, Jedi Knight: Jedi Outcast and Jedi Knight: Jedi Academy. Each game can be individually purchased, or customers can opt to buy the Star Wars Jedi Knight Collection which includes all games in one package at a discounted price. For those who wished to play Jedi Knight as it was made back in 1997, this is a good opportunity as the game remains virtually intact down to the last detail, however, this comes at a very significant cost; the Steam version of Jedi Knight withholds all the compatibility problems as the original retail counterparts. It is also worth noting that the original ingame music is not available.

For questions and colorful comments on this event, you can check out this thread.

JKLauncher - Echoman @ 12:37 PM
For those who always wished for a possible method of playing Jedi Knight online with others in this day and age but could find no means, check out JKLauncher on JKHub. Project leader and Hub admin, ZeqMacaw, recently updated JKLauncher (on August 9th), and now the most recent version is graced with more features to enhance game-finding capabilities and better manage mods and game content. When installing, remember to download Microsoft .NET Framework Version 2.0 and read up, on its JKHub page, all about JKLauncher, it's development history and what is planned for its future.
No End in Sight - Echoman @ 12:23 PM
The Never-Ending Story survived to see it's 10th year on August 14th. For those who are unfamiliar with it, the NeS is a writing-focused community project seeded in the Interactive Story Board (ISB) that has, throughout the years, grown to monstrous proportions. Being a decade old, this collaborative effort has become the longest run forum-related project on this site and definitely the most ominous thing residing on Massassi. If interested, visit the board to find more info on NeS future endeavors with the ISB crew.
