New Jedi Knight Multiplayer Level: The Harbinger's Call - Rob @ 6:08 PM
File: The Harbinger's Call
Author: JO_Aden_Lore
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: The Call is heard. You raise your head as it resounds around you mind, whispering softly a Siren's Song of urgent challenge. Another approaches. It weaves around you like leaves on the air, beckoning, commanding as a Puppet Master. There is but one action to take. Answer it. This is a Saber Level, designed for 2-4 People. It is set in the scene of an Ancient Temple like Arena. I created this for No Force, and thus there are no Force Items of any kind. Neither are there any Health or Shield Items. In an Arena. There are no second chances. Heed the Call. Take the Journey.
On a side note. - Rob @ 3:26 PM
Everyone who sent levels check your inboxes. One of you has Sircam sitting in your inbox. It keeps emailing itself to massassi.

Just wanted to let you know that if you recieve any attachments from the levels account don't open it unless I specify that I sent it not a virus 30 times or so. :)

Massassi City Project - blujay @ 11:49 AM
Radice has been coordinating a very neat project on the showcase forum, the Massassi City Project. Anyone can download the starting city block, build a building on it, and submit it to be put together into the full city. Quite a few people have submitted theirs, and others are working on their block too. It's looking great so far, so be sure to check it out!

Help Wanted: Level Posters - Brian @ 6:09 PM
The Massassi Temple is currently looking for people to post levels on a daily basis. Frankly, I'm frustrated with the number of people that come on the job, post for a week or two, then simply stop posting. I'm not interested in taking anyone on with this type of mentality, so please, before you even consider applying for this position, take a long look at yourself and your history and make a rational decision on whether or not you're the type of person to stick with this job over the long term. These are volunteer positions! Nobody makes any money from Massassi. If you're interested in applying for this position, read on.

1. Level posting at Massassi is not a glamorous position. It's very tedious and time-consuming. You have to deal with an extreme number of incorrect submissions. It takes a long time to download, process, upload, type in the information, and verify that each level is posted correctly. This isn't a joke. It's a very tedious process and it is WORK.

2. I'm only interested in taking someone into the staff as a level poster. I don't need news posters and I don't need someone trying to change the site. All I need is a level poster. If this isn't the position that you're ULTIMATELY after, please don't apply.

3. If you're not good at sticking with projects for the long term (say, at least 3 months of ACTIVE participation on a daily [or MOSTLY daily] basis), please don't apply. I understand that people have other obligations such as school and work, however I'm not interested in taking someone into the staff if they just don't have time or motivation for it.

4. You will not get a Massassi email address until you have proven to us that you are a reliable level poster.

5. You must ALREADY know the following:
  • How to use ftp to upload files to a server.
  • How to resize and reformat image files (such as .gif to .jpg).
  • Basic HTML by hand (we don't use editors such as FrontPage).
  • How to use a pop3 mail reader to access email and extract attachments.
6. You must already HAVE the following:
  • Broadband access - 56k modems don't count!
  • An FTP program that you are comfortable with.
  • A pop3 mail reader you can use to retrieve large attachments (I have yet to hear of even one web-based email system that can handle the size of the attachments I am talking about so please don't apply if you have hotmail or something similar!).
7. If you have read and understand all of the above requirements and qualifications, please email me the following information. Please note that if you don't include all the information, your application will not be considered.
  • The nickname you would like me to use for your identity on the main page if you are selected.
  • The email address you would like displayed on the main page if you are selected.
  • The type of internet access you have.
  • The FTP program you currently use and will use for posting levels at Massassi.
  • The mail reader you will be using to check the Massassi levels account.
  • The approximate time per day you can spend posting levels. This must be a couple of hours per day at least 4 days a week.
  • A short paragraph or a couple of sentences on why you think you would be good for the job.

GrndAdmThrawn sent in an interesting tutorial that discusses a way to make stairs that spiral upwards in a shellfish pattern.
New Tutorial: Advanced Terrain - Brian @ 5:43 PM
Darth J sent in this great tutorial on creating advanced terrain. While the idea itself isn't new, I think it's the only tutorial on Massassi covering this specific method.
New Tutorial: Advanced Domes - Brian @ 5:27 PM
ThreeDee sent in a superb tutorial that will teach you how to add more detail to your domes in the form of support beams. You can check out the tutorial by clicking here, and as always, it's available in our tutorials section.

More on JK2 Voices - Brian @ 11:22 AM
Bar Tender, who apparently attended the recent QuakeCon, offered these insights on the Jedi Outcast voice acting.
Damn, I knew there was something else I should have asked at QuakeCon!  But there were a few times in the demo that Kyle spoke, and it sounded like the MotS Kyle, Rino Romanio.  I don't know if that was new dialogue or recycled from MotS, though.  I  also don't know if the voice was representative of the finished product.

One thing to keep in mind: Romano also did the voicework for Alexander Munro, the male version of Elite Force's player character.  Since Raven did that game as well, they might use him again.

JK2 Sound Petition - Brian @ 3:06 PM
Lord_FinnSon sent word that he has started an interesting Jedi Outcast Sound Petition. While I think it may be a bit premature, it's definitely an interesting read. I'm curious... has anybody read any "official" word on whether the actors/actresses will come back for voice-acting?

GoZ Studios - New 3do - Brian @ 7:32 AM
MikeC sends word that GoZ Studios has recently released a new 3do. This time around you can download a standard or 16 bit version of an escape pod. Hit their site for the download. Note that this is a bit old but I'm trying to catch up on all the email that came in amidst the ongoing server problems.

State of the levels. - Rob @ 1:02 PM
Hello. For the past few weeks I have been posting levels and such here at Massassi. I haven't been around in the past few days because of real life issues that I have had to deal with.

I realize that alot of you have sent levels to the levels account and are wondering where did Rob go? Well I'm still here and I still will be posting levels and such.

I am asking you all to be patient as I just got my life on track. Please do not send any levels you have previously sent. They are all still here. Also please follow the submission guidelines thoroughly. There are alot of levels that haven't been sent correctly, and with our server difficulties I can't reach you to tell you to resubmit. After the server difficulties are corrected I will promptly contact those who have not submited correctly.

Sorry for the delay in postings. It is a pleasure serving you. Thankyou for your patience.

Rob

Server Problems / Forum Registration - Brian @ 8:43 PM
A large number of forum registration emails have been returned to the staff account due to the fact that the outgoing mail server on massassi.net isn't working correctly. If you have registered in the past few days, you probably haven't gotten your confirmation email. We're working on this issue and I hope to forward all the passwords out when the email is working again.

This also concerns any emails you've sent to me personally or to the staff account. Every email I send out gets returned, so if you haven't heard back, this is why.

User Registration/Bannings - Brian @ 11:13 PM
If you have had a message recently about being banned and you got a reply from blujay or myself regarding AOL users, please try your login again (or try to register again) and it should work. Sorry for the inconvenience. Note: this is for our level commenting system and the Editor's Corner, not the forums.
