News: Caught Up -
I posted all the news in my inbox - if anything got missed, please let us know (it probably got lost in the server move). As for files, I'm working on updating the level posting scripts which are broken due to the same errors that plagued the site earlier. Shouldn't take too long, I'll update here when I have more information.
JK2: Jedi Outcast Preview -
Buffa_Fatt of Jedi Nights sent word that GameSpy has released a new preview of JK2. Here's a quote:
"We're also going to have positional damage on all of the models as well," says Tosti, "this means when you shoot an enemy in the shoulder, he'll fall backwards or forwards, dependant on the location of the hit. We really can't say right now whether you'll be able to cut off limbs with your lightsaber, but it's in discussion." When he wasn't looking, the person playing the game for us proceeded to cut off a Stormtroopers arms and legs with the lightsaber. "You didn't see that," laughs Tosti. We're hoping they keep it in.
Although multiplayer Jedi Outcast was mentioned, nothing was etched in stone, unfortunately. "Since we're not shipping till early next year, we haven't really fleshed out multiplayer yet," explains Tosti, "don't worry though, we're making quite a few enhancements for multiplayer that I think you'll really like. That's all I can say right now."
Jedi Holocron Forums -
Jedi Holocron is the name of a new forum site featuring forums for basically every aspect of Star Wars.
JK2 @ QuakeCon -
Jessica sent word that JediKnightII.net has information about the upcoming showings of Jedi Knight II: Jedi Outcast at QuakeCon. You can read more about it in this .plan file by Kenn Hoekstra. More information can be found at http://www.quakecon.org/, the official QuakeCon site.
JK Server -
Cool Matty has started hosting a new "dedicated" Jedi Knight server which runs daily. Click here for the exact details. He's taking suggestions, so let him know which levels/mods you want to be rotated.
New DCM -
BrianTheSith was also the first to let us know that Al has released another in his parody comic strip, Diary of a Crazed Mimbanite.
Episode II Name Released -
BrianTheSith was the first of many to let us know that the official Star Wars site has released the name of Episode II. "Attack of the Clones" - No comment.
Hazardous Materials Updates -
Hazardous Materials has updated with several new textures. For those of you who don't know what Hazardous Materials is all about, it's essentially a portfolio, including textures, levels, and models by MaDaVentor. The textures and models are free to use, as long as the author is credited in the readme. Visit the site for more information, and to download the goods.
Etc. -
This was too amusing not to post. During my efforts to fix the various problems arising from the server move, I made quite the mistake. I deleted all the news in the Massassi news database. Thank goodness Digital (of ReconGamer) had a backup! Anyway, if you want to see something funny, click here.
Server Info + Forums -
Welcome to the new server. We're having some problems with PHP and some folder permissions, so give us a couple of days to work the kinks out. I think the forums are up and running again, so feel free to post. It went back in time about a week so if you registered recently, you may have to re-register. The word association thread is back open so make sure it doesn't degenerate like it did last time! As soon as the permissions/php problems get sorted out, we'll start posting files again - sorry for the delay!

Swoop Trailer -

For the press release, hit Jedi Legacy, for more info on the Swoop modification (which is a Jedi Knight mod that allows you to race in speeders) visit the official Swoop page.

#massassi Channel Statistics -
I've automated the channel statistics so they should be updated daily from now on. You can view the statistics here: http://www.massassi.org/massassi.html.
In case that's a bit confusing... basically a bunch of us chat in our chat room on a regular basis, and MassBot, our friendly neighborhood bot, records everything in logs. The statistics parser goes through the logs and pulls out random quotes, counts how many lines each person types, etc. Have a look if it sounds even remotely interesting.

Server Move Information -
Well the server move apparently hasn't gone as smoothly as our hosts anticipated. I was instructed this evening to put in the DNS transfer, so it sounds like everything should be up and running on the new server soon. Sorry for any lost data due to the fact that the copy was taken almost a week ago. I should have an IP soon that I can post so everyone can access the new site while the DNS transfers.

Level Design Resource Guide -
This is something I've been meaning to mention for a while now. If you're the person that originally tipped me off, I apologize for forgetting, so send me an email and I'll credit you. Anyway, Gamasutra has a very interesting new feature called the Level Design Resource Guide. It currently has 7 articles relating to level design. If you're a mapper, be sure to give all of these a thorough read. And if you're not a mapper, what are you waiting for? Get Jed and start learning!
Starfighter Postmortem -
Gamasutra has posted another interesting postmortem, this time for LucasArts' Star Wars: Starfighter. A postmortem Gamasutra-style is basically an article written by someone who was actually on the development team for the game (usually one of the leads). They generally discuss what went right and what went wrong during the development cycle. Anyway, check it out right here.

Star Wars Gaming -
Blue's News posted a ton of links to Star Wars gaming related material this morning. This Gamesmania previews page has previews of most of the upcoming SW games including Jedi Outcast. Gamespot has some Battlegrounds screenshots. Finally, IGN has posted 5 new JK2: Jedi Outcast screenshots. Is it just me or do those storm troopers still look like they're made out of marshmellows?

Server Move - URGENT -
The Massassi Temple is in the process of moving to another server within ReconGamer but in another data center. The hard drive was mirrored last night (Sunday night), so any changes/updates made between then and the time the new server comes online will be lost. This means that any EC updates, forum posts, level ratings/comments/downloads won't be reflected on the new server. You are welcome to post things, just know that they will not show up on the new server (you will have to re-post them).
Due to this fact, we will not be updating levels/mods until the server move is complete (hopefully by Tuesday).

Introducing: GalacticBattles.com -
GalacticBattles.com is a new site dedicated to the upcoming Star Wars: Galactic Battlegrounds, a real-time strategy game in the works over at Lucasarts. To kick things off, check out this welcome letter written by Gary Gaber, director of the game.
GalacticBattles.com is the first joint-effort between the LucasGames Network, MixnMojo.com, and The Massassi Temple. More information on this partnership will be released as time goes on, but don't be surprised if links to those sites and their network pop up around here.

Jedi Knight II Preview -
JeffW of JediKnightII.net let me know that IGN has updated their preview with first-hand impressions of the game from a visit to Lucasarts. This is a great preview that has a lot of gameplay information - here's a snip, but be sure to go read the whole thing.
The objective of the development team was to capture the look and feel of the movies, and they've certainly portrayed it as accurately as we've ever seen in a game. Lightsabers leave trails as they flash through the air. Battles are fast and furious with Jedis blocking each other's strikes with amazing accuracy -- and poly-to-poly collision support means that the lightsabers hit exactly as they should when you're in the middle of a frenzied exchange, and also promise to cut down on those annoying clipping problems that we're so used to. There are also body-specific hits, so if you tag your opponent in the leg, he's likely to acquire a nasty limp -- that is if you don't cut the leg completely off, a fate we saw befall a few unlucky Stormtroopers who happened to get in Kyle's way.
Mat and 3do Downtime -
Tomorrow I'm heading out of town and I'll be gone for about three weeks. Since I'm the mat/3do poster, that means that there won't be any mats or 3dos uploaded during this time. You can still browse through the mat section or the 3dos, but new ones won't be uploading for at least three weeks. Keep in mind that you can still send in your mats/3dos, but you won't see them on the site for a while. See you in three weeks!
