New Jedi Knight Mod: Saber Battle X - JK v3.1 - mscbuck @ 4:18 PM
File: Saber Battle X - JK v3.1
Author: ShadowX
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description:

Changes in v3.1:

  • Fixed SBX copyright date.
  • Nice new SBX logo for the Multiplayer background.
  • Field Light, IR Goggles, Change Lightsaber Color, Lightsaber Damage Toggle, and Light Motion Trails Toggle are now in your item inventory. You must go through your inventory to use these now; none of them have hotkeys anymore. I left those for the important stuff: Force Saber Throw, Force Push, Evasion/Kick, Saber ON/OFF Switch, and Lightsaber Stance.
  • Force Saber Throw and Push are now neutral bonus powers. Force Throw and Speed are back and Saber Throw and Push have their own hotkeys. You can't assign stars to Push or Saber Throw; you get them (with four stars) as long as you have SOME Jedi potential. In other words, the uninitiated don't get these powers while all Jedi levels 1-8 do in SP and MP automatically. Also, I changed the mana cost values so that all Jedi levels can use these powers (although very little in the lower levels, and can't be overused anymore in higher Jedi levels).
  • A Sith Talisman replaces the cheap and annoying Super Shield powerups. It enables the holder to have 15 seconds of total Force immunity (excluding Force Throw) and magnetic seal (to deflect lasers), although it eats up all your mana (if you have any) due to the draining properties of Dark Side magic.
  • Dark and Light Surges now only give you full mana (instead of infinite mana for 30 seconds AND full mana as they do normally).
  • Renamed new sabers to their correct names. I also renamed a few hotkeys slightly to be more optimal (like Increase viewsize is now Increase View Size, Thermal Detonator and Sequencer Charge are plural, Slow = Walk, Fast = Run, etc.).
  • Added a skin of Callista Ming, Luke's previous love interest. I also added Luke's final love interest, Mara Jade, and I replaced many of the Jedi skins with versions that are better. Yoda is in there now too-he's pretty much the right height, too. Additionally, I made a new Exar Kun skin since the old one was rather bad and made two versions of a new character named Angel. Finally, I touched up and fixed several other skins here and there that I overlooked in SBX3, re-added Bar Tender and Hal, renamed Solomon to Mikos, tweaked Dragon as per his request, and fixed all the 16-bit MATs so they don't turn black from afar.
  • Recorded some new Sith lightsaber sounds directly from the Episode I DVD digitally via GoldWave, tweaked 'em to death, and ended up with a much more fierce-sounding weapon with more bass-like the movie.
  • Added bass to all the single-bladed lightsaber swing/activate/deactivate sounds for balance.
  • Rearranged and balanced (volume/bass/treble-wise) the lightsaber wall and saber clash sounds so there aren't any useless or redundant sound files. Also, I brought back one of the original wall hit sounds because it provides more continuity in saber-to-wall collisions.
  • Force Destruction can cause damage to oneself for realism.
  • Force Blinding has a more powerful effect although it doesn't last as long.
  • Several other bug fixes and tweaks.

Long week - mscbuck @ 5:56 PM
Hey everybody! I'm posting this for one reason. I have lots of levels in my inbox, but I havn't been able to post them all week. I've had a ton of stuff to do. I had to play in my basketball games, had lots of homework, and have gone to a few Milwaukee Bucks' games. I will dedicate one hour tommorow for posting all the levels. Thanks to all the authors for their patience.

Jedi Knight in Computer Gaming World Hall of Fame - blujay @ 5:14 PM
This is almost a month old, but better late than never, right? Charlie let us know that Computer Gaming World entered Jedi Knight into their Hall of Fame. You can take a look at it thanks to Charlie.
JK2 Site Updates - Brandon @ 3:22 PM
A few days ago LucasArts posted a new screenshot on the official site which shows off an ingame cutscene. They've also updated today with two new additions to the FAQ:
2.07 Are you planning to have cheat protection for Jedi Outcast multiplayer?
Id Software® has put a lot of anti-cheat protection code into Quake III: Team Arena and we've implemented all of it into Jedi Outcast's code base along with a few other cheat protection features. In addition, there are menu options to kick players from servers and to password protect your server so only friends and trusted players can join in the event that cheating does occur.

3.11 Can you use your fists as a weapon in Jedi Outcast?
The default weapon in Jedi Outcast is the stun baton, not the fists. Kyle begins the game with a stun baton and his trusty Bryar Blaster Pistol. As such, there is no need to resort to fisticuffs.
Thanks to the predator and Chewbubba for making sure we knew about it.
Millennium Cog Verb List - Brandon @ 3:16 PM
Here's what Hideki has to say:
The cog verb list project has been going well and now I have made the categorization system, which is able to do the following:
  • Filter by cog category (as in jkspec cog category)
  • Filter by the first letter of the cog verb name
  • Filter by the number of comments
I hope this is better than showing the whole big list at once. If you have any tips on a cog, please visit.

Updates at the Limelite - Kedri @ 3:42 PM
Whilst making one of my rare appearances in the #massassi chatroom, MaDaVentor let me know about the latest updates to his site, The Limelite. He's completely revamped the textures section, and added a whopping 73 brand new textures to the mix. He's also made a texture pack available for download. Be sure to drop by and have a look at the new stuff!

New Jedi Knight Single Player Level: Best Lum Guide - mscbuck @ 4:58 PM
File: Best Lum Guide
Author: Jensyx
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: Kyle's butt hurt. How long was this debriefing going to take! The woman across from him winked at him. They had been flirting on and off all through the meeting. She had blonde hair and a quite serious face. She reminded him of Sariss. Ugh, that wasn't a memory he wanted bringing back! He had had to go to the psychologist for over a year to get over it when he hacked her up. Sariss had told Kyle that his guilt was purely because of a physical attraction, and if he kept away from blondes, he would feel better. Meanwhile, he related to the Commander how he had infiltrated the base and put a hole in Fortra's head. This level (as you can probably tell from the story) is a little silly. It is a product of the many newbie levels released on Massassi with their similar themes and stories. Although I made the architecture passable, the actual design and layout is your standard Imperial Base (TM). You'll spend all your time meandering through the labyrinth hallways and avoiding merciless death at the hands of the twenty stormtrooper legions. All in the name of searching for a few keys. All to steal a couple of crates of beer. I hope you enjoy it... or at least I hope you don't scream in anger as soon as you load it up....

New Jedi Knight Mod: AtStv7.0 (New) - mscbuck @ 5:21 PM
File: AtStv7.0 (New)
Author: BIG_MAG
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: Well here it finally is! I took the old AtStv7.0 and did a little remodeling. For starters I'll go over some bug fixes: -Thanks to SaberMaster, I found a way to fix the external view to a good postion behind the player. -AtSt now has the size and movesize of a regular AtSt, so now it can only be affectively used in an open area. -When in the AtSt, you no longer have to crouch to pick up items. -AtSt can now only be selected under weapons #3 and #5. -Distortion when switching between models has been significantly cut down. Unfortunatley, it can't be totally eliminated because it's changing between two pup files. -Only the crossbow shoots wide now because you're using the AtSt's secondary cannons. -Took away machine gun look on repeater. -Don't try and use the AtSt in a confined space. -Matrix Teleport now replaces force seeing and has a mana cost. -Boba Fett isn't magsealed or immune to physical damage, only the AtSt is magsealed. New features: -You play as Boba Fett under all weapons except #3 and #5. -Matrix Teleport (Good for surprising people) -New external view -Force Teleport (For free) -Grappling Hook (Can only be used with Boba Fett) -Jetpack (Can only be used with Boba Fett) Needless to say, you shouldn't have any trouble getting around! New Weapons: -Play the game, they're pretty self explanatory. Permissions: Everything used in here has either been used under permission or the author(s) have been given credit for their work. Nothing in here has been stolen or maliciously copied.

[Insert Verb Here] - Kedri @ 7:37 AM
Hideki dropped us a line earlier letting us know about the vast progress he's made on his COG Verb List project. In his own words:
The Cog Verb List I have been working on recently has been updated majorly, this time giving you the ENTIRE list of cog verbs from the Jedi Knight engine, thanks to Code-Alliance for the many descriptions.

For people who don't know about it yet, it's a system to share your experiences on each of the verb's usages. Anyone can post and read the comments on each verbs and share anything you found with other people.

The page is now huge with 455 entries but in the future I'll make some verb categorization and narrow the page size.

If you have anything to share on a specific verb, go right here and post away!
Let's hope the categorizing comes sooner rather than later; the table takes a while to download on dial-up. Apart from that, this thing is awesome! Great work, Hideki!

JK2 Official Site Updates - Brandon @ 4:36 PM
The Official Jedi Knight II Site has updated with new NRI reports, icons, and Jedi Knotes #5 which talks about the sounds of JK2. Here's a clip:
One of the first things you will notice is the high fidelity of the voice, music and sound in the game. Higher data rates and MP3 technology allowed us to approach a film-quality soundtrack for this title. Drawing from the wealth of Skywalker Sound's Star Wars sound effects collection as well as designing custom effects, the vehicles, weapons and locations will come to life as never before.
Yet Another - Brandon @ 4:25 PM
Thanks to shiny who let us know that GameSpy has recently named JK2 as one of the most wanted games of the year and has followed up with a preview.
JK2 Saber Moves - Brandon @ 4:20 PM
ZeroXcape sent word that Michael Chang Gummelt, the lead gameplay programmer from Raven, dropped by the JediKnightII.net forums and commented on how the lightsaber is going to work. Here's what he said:
There are 8 standard (directional) saber moves per style (for a total of 24), plus 2 special attacks per style, and a good deal of acrobatic moves. There are approximately 300 individual lightsaber animations (if you include all the transitions - each attack can transition smoothly to any other attack) totalling around 3500 frames of animation, just for the lightsaber...
Check out more at the thread & JKII.net.

New Jedi Knight Multiplayer Level: SaberDome Minimus - mscbuck @ 7:52 PM
File: SaberDome Minimus
Author: RS Thrawn
Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: This is a very small saber level designed for 2 to 4 players. The architecture and design are modeled after my previous level, SaberDome Maximus. Whereas Maximus is a very large level with many areas to explore, Minimus is a fairly straightforward level for either dueling, observing duels, or training. It is recommended that you use a JK saber mod while playing this level (e.g. Saber Battle X).

Screenshots: Screenshot 1, Screenshot 2
Description: Level 2 starts where level one ended; Hake escaped from his prison and went to search for a ship. But the police are looking for him, and finding a ship without any money isn't exactly simple. Maybe he could ring at the door of the local crimeboss and his former contracter Lillithon... Hake doesn't realize he's part of a game of power and corruption; and the disc he tried to steal before he was caught is the key to everything...
